PoE client as Torrent download
" The rest is getting too heavy for now... I'm sure we'll run into all that later, but we're so far off topic we should take it to PM or another thread... but the last thing I do wish to address, and say that it's not as hard as you'd think. Some people totally have meltdowns on forums... but a complete meltdown is not really required to vet someone. " Agreed! Sorry.. I think my tag should be "topic de-railer". "the premier Action RPG for hardcore gamers."

On the topic of torrents I wonder if there is an implementation of the torrent protocol that would guarantee a particular seed connection... ala the POE server.
Then they could cap their upload burden, cap the number of concurrent connections to something that wouldn't lag the game, and players could still get great speed due to the guaranteed seed + peers. If you have account problems please Email Support

How about just stop being overly complex about everything and just have a torrent file which goes into your client as per usual
seriously alot of over complication on something so simple, id be happy to seed at my meesly upload rate when im not playing the game just like many others would and do on alot of other games |

Because going with what exists is boring for us to talk about.

boring for people who like to over complicate the simplest of things yes? ;-D

clearly it's not so simple, since you were the one that brought up the potential problems of torrents running in the background... to which I replied it had to do with the implementation...to which I defended with proof using an outside resource... to which I then suggested a possible implementation.
you find it simple and uninteresting apparently, feel free to not discuss it. If you have account problems please Email Support

nothing to discuss after 1st saying torrent speed is not related to ping and then back tracking later ;-)
in any case it is simple as the simplest option would be the best, which is both a torrent file and server download as per usual |

Main pros and cons of torrents as I see them:
Pros: * Reduces server load * Possibly increases download speed if servers don't have enough capacity Cons: * Requires people to forward ports to allow incoming connections to get the best performance * torrents cannot be updated, you need a new torrent every time something is changed * hogs users' upload bandwidth * if the torrent downloads an installer, seeding can only happen as long as the installer remains on the disk, using up disk space * presents another possible cause for technical problems that the devs will have to deal with Since it's a free game, I think the method of letting 3rd parties mirror the files would be better. Like what is done for game demos. My ISP mirrors a ton of stuff like MMO clients, videos etc., which I can get at maximum speed and it doesn't count to my download cap. Just look at this Lineage II client, over 1.5 million downloads, 3GB a pop. That's over 4,500 terabytes. |

" If you read the article and read what I said, torrent speed is not really related to ping... it's related to the number of packets forced into queue by a high volume of concurrent peer sends... which some current hardware is not capable of handling well to a single user.... you would lag even if your speed was low. This problem is an implementation problem inherent in the torrent architecture, which could be ameliorated by implementation.
