Crafting is officially garbage in POE

It is one element of the crafting, and about something I said 5 minutes ago on another thread.

It's all about the choices you make.

- should I try to upgrade that ?
- should I try to craft such an item ?
- should I use my orbs to trade instead ?
- is it worth spending my orbs on that or should I wait ?

It's a good thing that this current system forces people to make relevant choices about what they should to, to force them to think about what to do imho.
The system is not perfect, but is far from being as broken as many people claim it is on this forum.

I'd like to have more orbs to allow more crafting too, having then their value decrease, but I don't think it's that simple.

Its broken because the orbs actually needed to craft almost never drop, unless you are a trader people cannot afford to go broke on "trying" to upgrade 1 piece of gear, as it is you either hit the lotto or are rich as hell to craft. That is broken to me. The horrid trading in this game is a whole other issue, but if you dont participate in the horrid trading you are not crafting. The game can be fun but these glaring issues are driveing me and many others away. Sweep it under the rug all you want but in the end it will be GGG that loses.
Of course the optimal way to craft is to have two items, but sometimes you just dont. I play self-found and dont buy gear. I've been hoarding jews & fuses for the past week for the purpose to go yolo-all-in on my main (and only) weapon. Just now I practically wasted all of them (was looking for 6S, but sadly didnt happen) and with the last two fuse remaining (had stacks of alterations for 4L backup) managed to 5L:

This would be impossible to do without lenghty hoarding. Ofc., like always, it would be probably cheaper to just buy a 5L... -_-

Still think crafting is awful

Its not a choice if one option is usually much much better than the other.

The currency I do get I've tried to use to five or six-link a Carcass Jack I traded for. I've spent over a hundred fusings on it, and the best I've ever gotten is four-linked.

I just clicked on another thread and here is a new player lamenting his "choice" in trying to link a carcass jack. He has spent over 100 fusings and ended up with nothing. Instead he could have simply spent those fusings and bought one with no risk whatsoever. Below is a link to a 5L Carcass Jack sold not too long ago for 40 chaos.

I never said crafting is just fine how it is, because it isn't. The incentive to hoard *is* strong, but this incentive has *nothing* to do with RNG; it has to do with Exalting a level 55 rare costing just as much currency as Exalting a level 78 rare. Another problem with crafting is that it is flat-out underpowered relative to trading for too broad a segment of the population. One might say that RNG is one of few things PoE's gambling system does well.

No, it has everything to do with RNG. This is just flat out wrong.

The incentive to hoard is strong because crafting sucks even if you have thousands of exalts to blow away.
Hoarding is the most natural way to counteract excessive RNG. Its economics 101. Its what traders do on the stockmarket when they deal with highly volatile stocks, they always hoard money (ergo raise a lot of capital).

If you don't have a lot of capital, then simply put you trade in much more reliable stocks.
I'm up to 8500 alts used and still no Tyrannical roll. Great game. Only thing that would make it better is if there were a way I could actually work towards achieving this Tyrannical goal. Plz make it so I have some control over what happens. At this point it feels like I could start a dynasty of my children, their children, their children etc. and we would likely still NEVER get a tyrannical roll. This is so un-fun it's ridiculous, fix this crap. If I quit this will be the reason no doubt

Sometimes you get really lucky, other times youre better off hoarding a mirror so you can dupe a premade bis rare.

Hoarding is what inevitably happens when you're grinding with a single character for such a long time.

If people equipped items on their other characters this wouldn't be a problem, but people aren't re-rolling. This is due to the time it takes to complete a build and the boredom of doing the storyline 3 times in a row instead of maps.
