Standard League is the best league.

@op
your view of the thematic is rediciolous.
i myself only play softcore and races.
i have almost ALL of my gametime in standart since closed beta
i created a nemesis charakter just to check out the rare mods and i might play with this charakter from time to time.

All you say is basicly "QQ my internet is too bad i cant level in softcore anymore"

because at a certain level softcore is just as "hard" as hardcore
your new content arguement makes no point at all because in softcore you wont just try a new map whenh your highlevel. because the deathpenality is imensly and not worth the yoloeffect

there are good reasons to play hardcore and even if its just for the thrill that you get every time you almost die.

i wont argue about the whole "fresh economy" thing because USUALLY i dont trade at all exept with friends or when i find a godly item (which tbh doesnt happen that often :P)

so yeah. standart league isnt the best league but it has the same right to exist and be respected just as domination/nemesis/HC
It is all about preference and that is it really. There are certain kinds of players for every league. I love the temporary leagues because I love starting out fresh. That feeling of going from absolute nothing is a lot of fun for me. I've always been an altaholic though. I love taking new ideas to certain points and then starting over. So I don't feel any attachment to my high level characters really.
Also, I think it is unfair to say those who enjoy temporary leagues don't care about their time. That implies that somehow, if you don't have something to show for it at the end, it is somehow a waste. Whatever happened to playing games for the fun of it? It seems like everyone wants something now. No one is having fun for actually playing the game, they are only doing it to earn some reward. Skinner boxes galore.
If the game only had standard league, I probably wouldn't still be playing. Standard league always feels kind of stagnate to me. However, for those who love hoarding vast quantities of wealth, that is why it is there.

In summary, every league has a purpose and a group of players who will enjoy them. Except perhaps legacy hardcore...

I know GGG released the percentages of players in each league at some point and if I'm not mistaken most of the players were in Domination and Nemesis. I think that speaks for itself.

Standard and the temp leagues were around the same. But GGG set the temp softcore league as default when making a new character. So most of the new players went there. If you think the majority of them will reroll when they end you have another thing coming.

Domination: 51.3%
Nemesis: 20.5%
Standard: 25.6%
Hardcore: 2.6%

Okay. But do you dispute that the majority of new players ended up on Dom and do you believe that the vast majority of them will reroll at the end of the league or continue on in standard?
Keep PoE2 Difficult.
I think those percentages will be about the same for the new leagues when Domination/Nemesis end.

I never understood the draw of a fresh economy. When I want to try a new build I have almost everything I need. My current character is a good example. I wanted to tried a crit EK scion build, I just slap my leveling gear on her and change gears and gems as needed, and when I got to maps I already have a large pool of 66, 67, and 68 maps ready to go.

I understand this mentality entirely. I wonder about myself sometimes when I am playing in new leagues, struggling to get the things I need to make a build work. Especially when my standard stash is literally teeming with items and wealth to make all sorts of builds work.
I suppose part of the fun is the adversity of getting what you need. You might not have the ideal solutions for a build and you have to compromise based on your wealth and try to make it work anyway. It also means you might suddenly get something that is perfect for a build and the excitement from that is often worth giving up the 'sure things' of a packed stash.

It is definitely possible that a majority of the new people started on Domination just because it's the default one when you create a new character. But as I already said I believe temporary leagues will continue to be the most populated due to new content and the way economy works in standard. Because who likes finding only items that are, like you said, vendor trash?

But who knows maybe I'm wrong. We won't really know until the current temporary leagues finish and the new ones come. And we will only know if GGG decides to give us the numbers again.

That is another good point. People love finding items that aren't 'vendor trash' as you put it. The amount of items considered 'vendor trash' is only going to increase on Standard to the point that 99.9% of the items are worthless.
On a new league, you can find all kinds of things that people will clamor over, especially early in the league. People love that, it makes their play time feel more valuable.

"to each there own" settles this entire discussion, any one who disagrees needs a reality check.

Its really a matter of your personality type that leads you to believe what league is the best. In reality there is no "best", only your opinion of what one is the best.

Sharing your opinion is one thing, forcing it on others is another altogether. Even as a new player I have enjoyed the nemesis league, I'll be changing to a more forgiving league until I learn the game better.

The thing you seem to fail to understand, every league has its purpose and a player base who thinks its "best".

Standard league - has the older characters and gear, you most likely think of it as the "best" due to having wealth and time invested there.

Domination - Most new players will enjoy starting here much more (hence its default!). It has a more level playing field in terms of gear and economy making it an ideal place to start. Also gives older players a chance to have a fresh start if standard becomes stale.

Nemesis - Adds an extra layer of challenge to the game, you don't lose the your character they are just moved to another league on death. Its genius really for people who like the "hardcore" challenge. Its there choice after that first death what to do with the character.

Hardcore - I find these people to be crazy but more power to them. I dont have the resolve to watch that much hard work go down the drain, but the rush they must get every time they come close to death is something a soft core player will never know.

Few days after 1.0.0 I logged into my Anarchy toon(now on standard) to see how hard Cruel Dominus would hit. 10 seconds in I see a 6 linked Searing Touch with an item level of 13 linked in global chat.

CTRL+C/V'd it to make sure and it was real. I don't even know how that works but I want one.
