is there any math or theory on using projectile weakness vs. elemental weakness? I use elem weakness whenever mobs have high resists etc, but in general when thats not the case what would provide higher dmg? I can't tell with my eyes and I'm bad at math.

You should almost always get more dps from Elemental Weakness. A level 20 Projectile Weakness gives you 34% more damage regardless of the enemies resistances. With Elemental Weakness it depends on the enemies resistances. 20/20 Ele Weakness reduces the enemies resistances by 59%. Let's look at a few basic scenarios for enemy resistances:
1) 0 res => -59 afterwards, 59% more damage
2) 50 res => -9 afterwards, 118% more damage
3) 75 res => 16 afterwards, 236% more damage
If monsters have the ability to cap resists higher than 75% let me know. For now I'll assume 75% is max.
4) 100 res => 75 before, 41 afterwards, 136% more damage
5) 125 res => 75 before, 66 afterwards, 36% more damage

I'm not sure how high monster resistances go, but in most cases Ele Weakness should vastly outperform Proj Weakness. Also keep in mind that Ele Weakness can still be improved by Enhance, giving it another 4% at level 2 or 8% at level 3.

If I missed any game mechanics let me know.

I use projectile weakness for the knockback, which is pretty nice against bosses.
Sure the knockback is nice, adds a little more defense. But with half of the skill being useless (our projectiles always hit and pierce anyway), Proj Weakness just feels inferior as long as only one curse can be applied.
