[outdated] Caustic Arrow Solo Map MFer (20/300+)

Yep. Hence we use the mastercrafted suffix rather than a prefix. It slightly increases the chances that the regal will hit a prefix, by reducing the suffixes available, and therefore +2.

ah... I got something ass about, dex is a suffix. Dex crafting mod wasnt listed on the wiki under Tora's list of crafting options and I selected the cheapest option which was resist based on that list. Learning to take information on the wiki with suspicion. Is Dex the best suffix to use then, based on cost and elimination of a high chance to roll affix ? maybe that could be included in the methods instructions ?

my appologies

Not to my logic, because each affix type is weighted.

This data is old and some new affixes have been introduced since these figures were calculated, which has changed the weighting slightly, but the same general theory applies.

There are 52 total suffixes (Dexterity Tiers 1-8, Life Gain Kill Tiers 1-3, etc) that have a statistical chance of 1.547% of rolling. I.e., each time you use a transmute orb on a bow, you stand a 1.547% chance of getting Dexterity T1 on an ilvl 79 bow.

This means that on any given regal, out of the possible available suffixes you stand a (1.547 * 52) = 80.444% chance of regaling one of those 52 suffixes.

Meanwhile, there are 27 prefixes available with a 2.343% frequency and an additional 17 prefixes at a 1.674% frequency, for a net of (63.261% + 28.458%) = 91.719% chance to regal one of those prefixes, out of the possible available pool of prefixes exclusively.

What's important to differentiate here is the weighting: the highest probability of any given suffix is 1.547%. While the highest probability of any given prefix is 2.343%. Meaning, prefixes are more likely to roll.

Now, while I'm not a statistician or a math guru by any stretch of the imagination, logic tells me that if prefixes are already more probable to roll, it better suits us to INFLATE that possibility by taking a suffix away from the pool of affixes available, so as to increase the likelihood of rolling a prefix, and thus the net chance that the affix we want will get rolled on the regal.

That said, it's entirely possible that it would be more beneficial to simply strip the highest probability affix type out of the equation, say, flat lightning damage, for example. It would thereby more dramatically increase the chance of getting any other affix, including the +2 roll.

Fact is, I simply don't know how the dice roll works, whether it's

a) Straight up roll a random affix based on flat probability or
b) Roll first to determine prefix or suffix, THEN roll for a particular affix.

GGG, to the best of my knowledge, has not released any information on the subject, however in my experience attempting to roll Twinned Museum/Arena maps, I notice that I typically LACK suffixes on my alteration rolls, compared to the amount of times I either 1) roll BOTH prefix & suffix or 2) roll a solo suffix.

This leads me to believe that the weighting itself actually leans the probability towards prefixes in general being more common.

Take with that what you will, but as you also mentioned, Dexterity is the cheapest option for mastercrafting, which is another factor.

Anyway, the long story short is that Dexterity also happens to have a very high probability of rolling, in addition to being a suffix. So, even if I'm wrong and there's a flat probability of certain affixes rolling, by mastercrafting Dexterity we accomplish two things:

a) Save currency
b) Take away a high probability affix

And, if I'm right about how the weighting impacts the general probability of rolling prefix vs suffix, then it also helps with that. =)

I thought I actually had specified to use Dexterity in the Mastercrafting section there, looks like I didn't. I'll fix that. I have fixed that.

Also, you wrote earlier that dex was a prefix. It's not. It's a suffix. Nevermind, you caught that. Yeah, the wiki isn't necessarily up to date on everything.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed explanation. Actually it was while I was looking through the chance to roll data table that I realised my earlier error in stating that dex was a prefix :)

Why does this build run Blood Rage? While using Frenzy to spread cursus, I am at maximum Frenzy stacks all the time. No need for Blood Rage... all it does is degenerate my health. Care to elaborate?

Because the majority of the time you don't actually need to curse. You really only need to curse bosses and certain tanky rares / blue packs. Meaning that if you're stopping to fire frenzy, you're actually slowing down your clear speed. Blood rage allows you to generate the charges automatically, which improves your clear speed, and thus your currency generation/hr.

Thanks Serleth... I played for a about a week after hitting 40 then decided to take a break... glad I kept checking in... even after being disappointed with the 2week race league announcement... because this poll and its current results look promising...
Off topic...
Spoiler

Checking back in after a brief GGG hiatus.

This league I rolled dual flame totem converted to chaos and then ice trap converted to chaos. I had hoped that the totem build would turn into a good MF build... didn't happen.

So I tried MF on the Ice Trap build - also not good.

The clear speed of Caustic Arrow coupled with the ability to equip lots of MF without a huge loss in DPS/survivability makes CA one of the best - if not the best - MF builds in this league.
==========

At any rate, just wondering what folks are doing for a 2nd build. I'm on my third toon now and am thinking about going Spark converted to chaos or maybe crit Blade Vortex.

Although I have a lot of the gear for chaos-Spark, I'm not sure I want to go this route - on my PC, the cursor disappears under heavy graphic load (such as is the case with lots of spark projectiles covering the screen) which makes me hesitant to roll Spark next.

Anyhow, would love to hear anyone's plans for a 2nd/3rd toon.

P.S. - Next league, I'll almost certainly roll CA as my first toon - everything I've tried over the past few leagues just isn't as good at MF as CA is.

I've had to put my plans for rerolls on hold. I have a backlog of things I need to clear out in Standard in order to make room for merges instead of constantly buying new stash tabs, so I had a boatload of corrupt maps, spare frags, Atziri sets, and unid maps to run. I've cleared the corrupts and most of the frags, decided I'm going to sell the sets (because running three tabs of sets makes me want to vomit), and about 2.5 tabs of unid maps.

Gotta try get it done before Perandus is over.

That said if I get time, I still haven't run a Bladefall character, so I wanna try that, see how my computer handles Fakener, and then go from there. Maybe cluster crit Ice Traps.

Is Increased Quantity gem better than Item Rarity for 6th socket?
