An interesting read I found on reddit : Why people who play D3 prefer it over PoE

I am surprised, how much love PoE gets even from the D3 players and some even admit that the game is much better at some points than D3.

But the reasons are mostly : combat, graphics, desync. But there are more. Read it yourself if you have the time :-)

Sounds about right.

I play both Diablo 3 and Path of Exile a lot.

Diablo 3 pros:

+ Drop rates are excellent
+ Zero to very little desync
+ Interesting enemy designs and skill-based boss fights.
+ Different mana mechanics per character

PoE pros:

+ Passive tree
+ Races
+ Very high level ceiling
+ Great skill system
+ Endgame maps
D3 is fun, but you really cannot play it for years and years like many of us POE players. At its core d3 is very simple, you can endlessly modify a max level character, so replayability goes way down, char customization is nothing, ect ect.

I dont mind desync, as I understand the cause and that it will exist in any game that runs almost everything server side to prevent cheating.

I do hope GGG gets to the performance issues someday though. I mean, my pc is a few years old aure, but if I can play skyrim with over 100 mods, sweetfx, and ENB, I should have zero problem running POE.

My video ram and system ram dont even get up to 50%.

CPU and GPU load nowhere near 100%.

Yet I get frame skipping, choppy framerates, occasional total freezing for a second or two, ect.

Months of tweaking with radeonpro and other methods has only gotten the situation from absolutely horrid to playable. 6man parties with flashy effects are a joke still.

Such is the fate of an amd+ati build for now.

Still nowhere close enough to get me to stop playing.

Im surprised so many d3 players in that thread counted the massive passive tree and customization/having to plan your build beforehand as a negative.

Theorycrafting a new build, or modifying an existing build and discovering something that really works, is a good part of POEs fun, for me anyway.
If i want an explosion of guts and gore and shoot a kamehameha with a wizard in all directions yelling "i need moar arcane powa!" and play self found, D3 is the game for that.

If i want my 39 builds and counting (given i can afford new char slots one day) and just play for some improvements in my builds design then POE is the game for that.

Who ever said you gotta stick to just one game anyways? Thats a stupid logic thrown around by gamers. Goes for all game genres too, some are die hard COD players others are into battlefield or some such stuff.

Oh and forget arpgs and PVP, play stuff like tekken or Smite or something where PVP is the sole purpose of the game and not just some side feature.
I've played both. They both have their pros and cons. PoE is good when I'm feeling ambitious and want to sink my teeth into something, while D3 is nice when I just want to zone out and crush skulls for a while and not really have to worry about accidentally screwing something up. Having full access to every skill is nice, especially when you get a new piece of equipment that raises the damage of all fire skills by 20% or something, you don't have to start an entirely new character to take advantage of that... but the downside is that replayability is almost nil. Once you have, say, a level 70 witch doctor, there's not really any decent reason to start a new witch doctor. If you want to play the campaign again you can do that with your level 70, and due to the way monster scaling works it'll still be challenging. So... yeah. Different games with different playstyles.
quote from reddit :

I actually dont like the ability gems. I like distinct classes with unique spells and resources.

This is the reason why I love most RPG games. Because the classes are unique, atleast they should be. I mean a rogue should use daggers, ranger bows, warrior 2h etc. I dont like that in PoE a Marauder, Duelist,Scion, Ranger and a Shadow all can use bows for example and even use the same skills. The only difference is the starting area in the passive skill tree which can be mix/maxed based on your preferences but that doesnt make these characters unique. This is the only thing what I dont really like about PoE "classes" and gems. Dont get me wrong, the ability gems is a good innovation and a cool concept which is working fine in PoE.

haha thats pretty much what i love in poe. i HATE the trifecta. its bad. and boring.
if i can play a 2H Axe witch why whouldnt you let me? it sure looks silly but its fun. and thats what games are about for me.
Diablo 3 for me is a big fail, i am honest - Diablo 1 and 2 was skyhigh better then D3 now. PoE reminds me of old good Diablo 2 with level grinding, static builds and maps (cow level in d2 can be considered as "map").

Also - this skill system in PoE - my imagination explode from builds xD (I am big fan of cyclone and arctic breath skill gems).

One thing why D3 is better than PoE - graphic, graphic and music xD

But sorry nerds - GREAT GAMEPLAY >>>>> Graphic and music.
I loved me some D3. There just wasn't enough content to stick around. I had a top softcore character, an endgame hardcore one, all the gold I needed, most achievements done, etc. When RoS came out I figured the game was so easy it would only last me a few weeks so I didn't even bother.

The pros are distinctly the combat and visual aspects. It also ran on my shitty computer well, and when I switched to PoE I was in for a rude awakening.
I like the graphics of d3 thats about it. I stopped playing when Ros came out. tried the new class. still the same. and the rng on that game for me is pretty much terrible before the expac came. (I played since launch till before a few months before the expac came. I bought the expac using the funds from the auction house. (played all diablo games)

I prefer poe since you make your own build and make it work (somehow). or have a headscratcher.
and I like the inhumane attack spd. and somehow the rng of the game on me is about average. since Ive 6L (just now) , chanced a uniq, dropped all currency except mirror (next target). dropped a uniq that isnt crappy (Pledge). and havent beaten yet the content (atziri) lol using my own theorycrafted build. since I dont copy them I just get other builds idea and mechanics on how things work.
