Offline Mode

Hate to break it to you but D3 and WoW can be played single player offline already. The whole point of the hack is to fill in the parts you would receive from the server.

Nope. D3 and WoW emulators dont work at all compared to original game. Even for WoW emulator morgue that is best at the moment youl need a interent conection and its not close to original game. About d3 singplayer I know your troling becouse d3 emulator mooege cant be even called a game. Its a sand box, and will mostly be used for boots and hack creation.

No one with online access would ever make a singpleplayer character, it's pointless.

Wrong. You will make it becouse of no lag, play where you want, play alone a singleplayer game.

The only people who would truly have a use for offline capabilties are people who have little to no internet access. This group is ridiculously small, if you take diablo 3 it would be far less than 0.5% of their potential customers, why would they make an offline mode just for them?

0.5%? Lol again wrong. Please don't throw numbers around like they are facts. A lot of people will not buy d3 because it's only online.

The only reason so many games (like d2 for example) had offline modes before was because there were simply a lot of
people still who had no / bad internet.

Wrong, see my first part.

Why? Why would you spend all this time playing a character that you can't use online to play with your friends etc. Everyone with a decent internet connection will simply not make a singleplayer character, unless they fail at logic.

I played the beta from EU with over 200 ping, which is equivalent to having bad internet on normal servers, and the game was still incredibly fluid. Far more so than D2 ever was for me on EU servers with a good connection.

As for why previous games had it, ofcourse that's the reason, I don't even know what your point is in that regard.
Sure, there will be people who like to play singleplayer for whatever reason, but those people are such an incredibly small amount versus the total playerbase that it's pointless for a company to develop something specifically for them.

Umm, becouse if you gona play alone there IS NO REASON TO BE ONLINE. Simple as that.
About no lag, I guess you were lucky, becouse a lot of people had problems with lag, drops and others.

Character data was only kept on your local system in D1, they changed that for d2

What? Characters/saved games were stored on your harddrive in Diablo 2. I still have mine backed up to a CD. I could install Diablo 2 right now, place my old characters in the saved games folder, update them to the latest version, and voila. I even did just that a few years ago when I was craving some Diablo 2. :)

Characters where stored on your drive if you played offline singplayer or lan, or where stored on blizard servers if you played on bnet.
It doesn't matter if it's possible or if it worked for other games. Path of Exile is online only, and there is no plan to change that. This has been discussed before and the devs have responded.
Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

During some hours in the 'stress test' yes. But most of the time it was at ~200 ping and as I said, very fluid, even with a ping that high.

Since apparently i was doing something wrong in necroing a thread about this on suggestions part of this forum ill discuss it here aswell.
Its a suggestion, should be in suggestion part of the forum anyway in my opinion.

To start with i like Path of exile, i played it alot.
My issue is this:
Sometimes my internet provider goes belly up or does weekend fixes.
Or i want to play with friends that doesnt have a router or a way to share their internet.

Now what i would like to have as an option in PoE is an offline version, and for it to be standalone game from the online one.
LAN support would be nice too.
That way if i want to game with friends without needing internet i can do so.
I would even pay for a offline LAN client.
I dont even expect it by launch, but maybe a few months after.

If anyone has a good argument besides "Doesnt everybody have internet?"
I would like to hear it.

Its one of the things that makes torchlight 2 awesome, LAN/offline/online/mod support is things Torchlight 2 does.

PoE can at the very least add LAN/Offline mode for those of us with bad/limited internet or those that still go to LAN parties without internet.

This next quoted post also highlights the issues of an offline mode that would need to be solved in a good way by GGG.

I agree with nbringer in principle, I would like to be to play (and would pay for) an offline version. However...

I'm no coding guru, but my layman's brain tells me that the game has been designed under a client/server model - therefore an offline version would have to include the server code to function (even if it is merely "serving" to the client on the same PC). Having access to the server code would mean more frequent and more successful hacking attacks on the online version of the game.

So it is imperative that the workings of the server be kept a highly guarded secret, and not just handed out to anyone with a web browser.

Additionally, hacks could probably be made to enable in offline mode all of the extra features/perks normally reserved for cash shop customers, potentially reducing income.

Lastly, the main idea behind the free to play model seems to be to attract as many players as possible, whether paying or not - the non-paying players would enrich the experience of the paying ones.
An offline version would reduce the number of online players, hampering that goal.

lol on the comments...

offline is saved on players computers and online on GGG servers- diablo 2 style. there is nothing wrong with that. make it happen cuz some players dont have op internet.
