Caster vs Melee unbalances around lvl 70s
rofl ...
This was just about people saying that caster were simply squishy and melee tanky. This is not true in PoE. That's all. I've basically said the rest, believe or not, idc at this point. You have a hard time on your casters, sad for you. You have a good time on your melees, good for you. " It's actually easier to farm for acceptable gear on ranged characters @casters and archers. I was just answering someone when showing the chests, you seem a bit lost there ... It just got a bit off topic because of some whines about casters, I bumped it though, mb. " It would have a BIG impact on lvl 70 caster characters because, unlike melee chars, gem level has a major impact on dps output. A change like this would have the effect that casters would do more dps (still not as much as melee) and effective farming can start at around same levels for both offense types. And what do you mean with 'how many quests are you still doing at L70'? A quest reward like this should come from like the bandit quest reward, or something similar. |

" What do you define by "hard time"? I can progress on my casters, but my melees do it more efficiently, so I stopped to bother with lesser options. Sorry, but I also don't care if you agree or not, I put my arguments, I know a lot of ppls who agree with me. We all see in 3 month, if GGG will change meta or not. If not, maybe you are right, if yes... maybe I was right. But the reality at the moment is, that if I party, it's my friend cold witch, discharger and rest are melee. And we are not doing lowbies but 73+. Anticipation slowly dissipates...

" Try PUGging for 5-10 evenings and count how many people running maps 66-69 have melee chars, spectral throw or dischargers. Count how many has spellcasters (you know, like throwing a fireball, not a fire trap, bear trap or setting up two sentinel turr... I mean totems). Then run maps 70+ with your guild or people from friends list. Do the same statistics as above. I guess you will find not more than 5% using spellcaster builds. In reality, caster builds are not efficient. By efficiency I mean DPS * EHP / Cost. Before 1.0.0 you could meet at least sporkers, though I don't count using traps and totems as spellcasting. Spectral throw is the new "fashon" skill ( thx to GGG there ..... ), and melee got a recent buff.
No wonder why those type of build would be more played atm, doesn't make caster under powered. I don't actually really care about what other people play tbh. I play solo sorry, check poe-statistics if you want stats. I count totems in casters. And FP / EK are still strong btw, good thing they are not OP, no need for OP stuff. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

" Fruz's characters Fruz Standard Ranger 8768 84 Ranger caster? Hmmm, interesting idea, have to try. Anticipation slowly dissipates...

Played some casters ( a while ago, when everyone was saying "melee is shit" ), prefered melees.
Do you have a real point ? thaaaat's what I thought ... thx ! Oh and btw, I almost tried to really turn it into a caster, and it's far from being unoptimized. ( I was obviously refering to stats about how many people play what as you refered to btw, but np ). I don't need to have a point, and I don't want to have one, you are not playing caster on high level map at the moment. I understand now, why you don't need any OP stuff.
And I play my templar for 11 months. As a melee. I created my first caster on Anarchy, more than half year after I joined PoE. Anticipation slowly dissipates... Editado por útlima vez por tmaciak#3784 en 2 dic. 2013 12:57:43

There are too many spells that fall into the "niche" category, there aren't very many that can carry as a main damage dealer. Melee is way more straight forward and the skills are pretty flexible. Most of the spells that were FOTM during closed beta have been hit with nerfs.
Also, the bottom half of the tree just has a better overall design IMO. There are tons of life nodes with plenty of good damage options very close to them. Going into damage nodes on the upper half burns tons of points just via travel and the life nodes are spread way thin. |
