I'm so good, I never actually have to fight :P

Oh? Fight me in fencing :P I'll even use a butter knife.

A bit difficult to pull off, we're separated by the Atlantic Ocean and some land :)
You have to be realistic about these things.

Flamberge I guess.
But I'd prefer a bayonet attached to an assault rifle anyway.
There is a sure way to die.

The only fight I ever won was the only fight I didn't start. And it almost got me expelled, because apparently I used a brick against a kid's head. I don't remember. But it was 3 on 1 and I'd been putting up with their bullshit torment for months. So eh.

Years after that I did martial arts for a good number of years. Wasn't *bad* in combat if you consider freeform sparring combat, which I generally don't, but I wasn't a natural either.

As I said before, a sword would never be my weapon of choice personally. I'd take a sock with a half-brick in it over a sword most days.

If you won a fight against 3 using only a brick I think you have done a good job. The Dao of the Brick is strong in you.

------

Most of my fights was before I reached 16. When I was a kid I was very easy to bully, I wouldn't fight back when mocked or hit, but if people touched my face with disrespect I would sorta of snap...

And lose of course, but that was the only thing I couldn't take.

When I was around 13 I think, I had a fight with my sadistic 4 years older sister, it was one of the only fights that ended in a draw that I fought. She left with a green-ish eye, and I left with my face scratched all over.

Before anyone judge me, she kicks like a horse. Also we had a discussion, I called her to the fight, but she came on her on. And it's not like she never whooped my ass before that... So yeah, I didn't do anything wrong...

We haven't fought since that, but if she came after me today I would have to run away, since now I'm bigger than her and I don't want to go to jail.

When I was around 17 I came to realize (because I read somewhere probably), that the way you throw your punches is more important than your muscle strength (specially if you are a shrimp like I was), it's not my fault that I never realized that, I grew up around fat kids, and they threw heavy blows just by swinging their arms.

After learning that, I kind of improved my punches by having a half-assed boxing stance, I got to use that once when I fought a dude that was in the same school. We fought on a downtown area, and it was an awkward fight, but better than my previous ones I guess.

We were provoking each other over some stupid shit, and he said that he would find where I lived, I decided that solving things right there was better so I went after him.

To be honest with you, I'm was still kind of dumb/coward in a sense that I didn't sucker punch him when I decided that we would fight, I just raised my fists waiting for him to raise his so we could start (I'm so ashamed of myself now that I think about it).

But Well... things didn't go the way I expected. When I raised my fists the dude made a surprised face and went around his friends. I thought it was kinda funny at the time, because he was talking tough but when it came to fighting he gave me the impression that he was going to run away.

But of course, he wasn't running away, we just didn't want me to land the first punch (unlike me, he must have known that landing the first punch can win some fights...). He came back just when I was confused and managed to land the first punch. After getting hit, of course I hit back but it was kind of weird, not because of my strength, or anything like that, it's just that he had the pace, and could land 2 punches on me and I could land only 1 at him each time.

After being hit 4 times, I took a step back hoping that with the change of distance I would break his rhythm so I could take back the initiative when I stepped back and at the time it worked, I managed to land 2 consecutive punches on him.

Spoiler
Today I know that that footwork was lame as fuck, because it was a step back with one of the legs and then a step forward with the same leg, so I guess that if I was hit while I was doing that shit I would probably be done for, since I'm changing the leg that is sustaining my weight...

Also I don't remember if my first punch after doing this was awkward, but fuck it, I hit him! Twice!

After hitting him, he grappled my head under his armpit and hit the glass of a store with it.

I think I could keep fighting if he didn't do that, his punches weren't heavy, but after breaking the glass we both bolted out. I had a small cut on my back but it wasn't much.

I count that fight as a loss, but it's one that left me unsatisfied because I consider "pushing your opponent on a store head first" a dirty trick.

Since we were wearing our school uniform, the store we fucked up called to our school and we had to share the bill of the glass, I was working part time, so I didn't had to borrow the money from my father at the time, but I don't know about that degenerate.

Someone that throws people against store windows must certainly not have a job.

------

I didn't fight since, and I'm happy with that, the time to do stupid shit is before 18, and nowadays I didn't met any situation where I lost my temper, or that I could only solve by fighting.

I don't think there will be any situation I will need swords either, but this is a topic that is nice to talk about even if is just to spend time.

You are going to betray your actual weapon?

There are swords for thrusting and for slashing.

But in very special cases you need something different, like a Chomping Sword.

Technique is definitely important, but muscles, mass and strength are bloody important too. I learned that the hard way when I was a kid and was getting a bit cocky, so I had a fight with a guy who didn't really feel my punches and just grabbed me, brought me down on the ground and laid on top of me and it turned out I couldn't do anything as he was much, much bigger and stronger. Good thing he was a decent fellow and didn't ground and pound my head in the asphalt, because he could have. I was thinking he was too slow and didn't stand a chance in the punching game, and I was right, but it turned out he didn't need it.

Anyway, just a few weeks of boxing classes will do wonders for your punches. Boxing technique is a thing of beauty and wonder. Won't be worth jackshit if you get grappled on the ground by someone who knows what he's doing, of course.

Haven't been in a real fight since junior high school, and happy to keep it that way. When the goings get tough, I get an unpleasant gleam in my eye and people notice. No one seems really willing to push it, and I'm perfectly fine with that. I've actually been in some pretty hairy situations and went out of them without escalation.
You have to be realistic about these things.

I could have trained my muscles more, but gaining weight wasn't an option back then. I could eat as much as I wanted and the only change would be the amount of sh*t afterwards...

Hell yeah! Practical and straightforward are words that I would use to describe boxing(from the little I know), but certainly, there is elegance and depth in it.

Strength helps, especially good core strength, mass only to a degree. You increase the mass of the punch through good use of legs and hips. Drop your body slighly down and rotate your upper body into the punch, plenty mass coming from that. Throw the punch in a straight line, rotating the fist to increase momentum and make use of your forearm muscles too, pull the opposite hand back at the same time as a reaction force. make sure your wrist is fully straight and you only make contact with the 2 main knuckles, which should be perfectly aligned wiht the forearm to prevent wrist injury or loss of power through your wrist crumpling. aim for for several cm behind what you are actually hitting. increasing your mass linearly increases the force of your punch. increasing your speed exponentially increases your power.
the simplicity and at the same time complexity behind a simple punch is fucking beautiful .../end nerdgasm ;)
