 Some kind of basket/guarded rapier. No "lopping off huge chunks"; one extremely efficient poke and it's all over. The hand protection implies that dueling is a primary consideration; not warlording or slaughter in the fields like some kind of uncivilized barbarian.

Scimitars and the like are my least favorite as well, I actively hate them for some reason.
