Arachnophobia / No-Spider option

I understand that fully, but it only makes a massive difference to the player base, not to whether GGG is a business or not.

Which is why GGG are smart enough to make their micro transactions the only type acceptable to gamers and that is cosmetic effects.

To enlighten you though, cosmetic effects do actually have in game value (obviously, people buy them) because they make you look nicer and feel more special. They use a more stealthy way to take your money that won't upset the gaming community. People go mad if anyone think's a game is pay to win, they leave and the game crumbles.

GGG are smart enough to realise this and made them cosmetic effects only. The bottom line is though that the majority of players buy these effects and some even spend ten thousand dollars to make a monster - happy days! I wonder if they gave all those away for free and simply asked people to donate out of the goodness of their heart whether or not they'd be making the money they are now. Doubtful :P

And that is why they are a business, hope that clarifies it for you.

Going by your logic, if GGG was all about the art and not an actual business then they'd give away their micro transactions for free would they not?

It makes a massive difference... if you don't understand that you're not even a gamer in my eyes. What difference does it make between a game being pay to win or not? did you just ask that?

The micro transacctions are often given away for free, by the way.

A business - is an organization involved in the trade of goods, services, or both to consumers. Businesses provide goods and services to customers in exchange for other goods, services, or money. Businesses may also be not-for-profit or state-owned.

1. "Grinding Gear games" provides a service;
2. They exchange microtransactions into money;
3. We (players) are the customers who use this service.

"Microtransactions are often given away for free" - many games do that, they occasionally promote people, give various rewards or discounts for subscription time.

Still, if a game was free to play AND all microtransactions were free - "Businesses may also be not-for-profit"

Its different though, its not set up so that you're paying 10,000$ to design a monster, or 1000$ to design a unique ,its like a donation perk, like a kickstarter campaign gives you certain perks for reaching donation thresholds, that doesn't make them businesses.
[REmoved by Support]

Of course they are paying to make a monster and design a unique item! - There may be a very few rare cases that someone just donated money to the game for nothing, but a very very small number.

Oh and fyi kickstarters are businesses looking for money to grow into bigger businesses. They provide perks to get more money, just like GGG. Can't believe I need to explain that but there you go.

This has gone on a tangent honestly, business or not, its a retarded idea to change their design in-game because people are afraid of animated spiders.

haha indeed it has.

And that we can most certainly agree on! :)

Seeing as this isn't the first thread on this subject, and one of the previous threads made it 10 pages, I'd say that this may be something that GGG could look into, if it isn't too costly on development time.

One option would be to set a flag that replaces spider assets with spitters.
Another could be to duplicate all of the spider entries in the monster DBs, and have them point to the spitter assets, then have a flag to swap between the original spider entries and the newly created entries.

For those afraid of heights, watch this, full screen, on a large monitor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgO4Gd4RhvM Were you affected by it, even though it wasn't real?

They could just have the option to make all spiders invisible.

Rational people are not scared of heights because they understand they are safe when up high and rational people aren't too scared to play a game with spiders in because they realise the spiders are not real. LOL (sorry I still find this very amusing)

Being afraid of heights is actually a fairly rational fear...There is a lot of danger involved and the dizziness some people experience doesn't help either.

Fearing spiders though...the only rational reason I can think of that someone is afraid of spiders is that they believe all are dangerous. Most are not.

I'm OK with giving Camouflage to all spiders. :) Ooh, that would be and interesting Race mod: All enemies have Camouflage.

It also seems that some people in this thread have anger issues. :)

Being afraid and having a phobia are 2 very different things. It's rational to be afraid of heights, being in a dangerous place that is high, having a healthy respect for what could happen etc.

It's not rational to have a phobia of heights hence why it is most certainly an irrational fear. But thanks anyway :)

As an example - Someone with a phobia of heights wouldn't want to look out of a window in a tall building, where as someone who is scared of heights would realise they are completely safe and be fine - but you probably wouldn't catch them skydiving!
