Why are people worried about POE being an MMORPG?

I do not understand why people are worried about this, I do not think the changes and the daily quests will change the game to an MMORPG.
Here are few points, to argue my case:

1. This is a generalization but most RPG games are turn based even WOW although it is not as noticeable as FFVII, you enter combat and take turns attacking based on attack speed and cool downs. POE will never be an RPG it will always be an ARPG is focused more on attacking simultaneously and destroying large hordes of monsters.

2. MMO ‘s != WOW, which I am assuming is what people are fearful of. MMO can be any game with a large player base online. WOW does not even have instances, although I think Guild Wars does, but the point is, POE can be an MMO and still be a hardcore dark game, actually technically it probably was an MMO even before this patch.

3. Daily quests will give people something else to do other than grinding, and for people that love grinding, they do not have to do the quests. Missing a daily quest will not have an impact on your game because you can do as many quests as you want in a day, I believe it was meant for people who do not have time to search for quests, and can at least do one when they log in.

4. GGG built POE with inspiration from mechanics from their favorite games, FFVII, D1,D2 and others, so POE is not just an ARPG or a MMORPG, it is POE: a unique dynamic game centered around customization, grinding, and killing tons of monsters.
If you disagree that’s fine, but I wanted to share my opinion, that making POE a MMOARPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Action Role Playing Game ) it will still be great because the core game has not changed.

If you disagree please explain why POE being an MMO is bad.

Thanks for reading and looking forward to the new expansion!

Oh my god, PoE is just like any MMORPG now.

What were they thinking?! Adding daily missions and hideouts? I want my ARPG gameplay instead of this WoW crap!

Daily missions are heavily featured in WoW. Hideouts and houses were featured in as early as Everquest. Both are MMOs. I can see the connection now.

I've actually seen this coming a long time ago. Even before the official launch, this game was screaming MMORPG.

This is a game about killing monsters. MMORPGs have a lot of monster killing. OH MY GOD.

This game has leveling mechanics. MMORPGs thrive on leveling. OH MY GOD.

This game has a lot of items and players grind for better items. MMORPGs are item grinding games. OH MY GOD.

Players in this game use a mouse and keyboard. Guess what WoW players use! OH MY GOD.

Guess we shouldn't be surprised that PoE is now just like WoW. So many similarities and warning signs to begin with. But it's still so shocking that they nailed the final nail on the coffin. Now they add daily missions and hideouts? Why not just officially rename this game to WoW: Path of Burning Panda Exiles?

GGG I WANT MY ARPG BACK );

Thank you for this. Pretty tired of the sky is falling crowd with the MMO bullshit. Whatever you want to tag it as means nothing. If you like the game, play it. If not, move on.

I think there are 2 M's in MMORPG because one stands for 'Massively'.

Certainly its a Multiplayer online action RPG, but Path of exile currently has a maximum of 12 characters per instance, so I dont think that would ever warrant the term 'Massively' to apply.
Global chat certainly feels massively.

What defines an MMO for me is social interactivity.
For me PoE was an MMO since the chat rework back then.

you have a game which ppl consider diablo 2.5 ( even david brevik said so)
you lure in all the oldschool d2 player who were dissapointed by d3 and consider poe the real d3

after 2 years and tons of sold mtx and diamond support packages you have build a stable name for yourself
now you try to expand to the asian market which is mmo heavy so you have to cater to their needs

if i want to paint walls i play SIMS
if i want to decorate my house i play SKYRIM
if i want daily quests i play WOW/LINEAGE/GW whatwever

this game was advertised as a niche game with diablo2 reference and now its slowly losing its identity for the price of casuals

and thats the purest definition of being a sellout...and you really ask why ppl dont like it ?

Valid point I guess, though I keep chat turned off so I didnt really consider that. Though I personally would never use the term 'Massively multilayer' just because I could chat to everyone currently playing the game

Just wait a month and all those complaining people will have calmed down or stormed off with one final rage post. Occasionally they'll stay around and post passive aggressive remarks in threads, but there aren't too many of those. Its just the way things work around here.

I do not understand how this would effect the core game, all the above points are optional, you can play exactly the same and ignore the master, and be a grinding master yourself.
This expansion was smartly done to bring more casual players in the game without hurting the hardcore game play.
