[3.15] Storm Rain Raider League Starter - Theorycraft

So, what do you think would be a decent gem setup for a 6L piece?
I'm new and kinda stuck about how to get good damage out of this skill.

More projectiles, scaling damage and probably some aoe size if your items and tree doesnt give enough, duration seems pointless to both increase or decrease, attack speed is good. idk much about ailments but might be worth trying to scale some of that in too.

Can someone help me understand how Trinity works with this skill? I thought stuff that added base cold or fire would merely add to the existing hit, therefore not succeed in swapping elements to really proc trinity.

But I see a lot of people converting to cold, or running hatred, etc. How does that help make trinity work?

Yeah thats easy, Trinity cares for what the bigges damage part of the hit is. Because Lightning damage has such a high range compared to Cold damage you will statistically roll lower Lightning damage numbers then Cold damage numbers with just a bit of Phys to Cold conversion or added Cold damage.

Thanks! So I think I understand.
Trinity relies on doing a different type of damage than you did previously. So by adding cold damage from say, Hatred, or converting some of the lightning to cold, I'm likely to roll higher lightning sometimes, and higher cold sometimes, thereby triggering the Trinity effect?

Yes but converting 40% of your phys to cold via the 2 cold conversion skill points on the tree should probably be enough, Herald of Ice or Hyrri's Ire should also do the trick.

Thanks for taking the time to explain! I'll add those points on the tree and slot in Trinity where I previously had phys to lightning (to get 100% lightning). I got a feeling that'll make a big difference because Trinity did feel nice while leveling. I actually leveled with Wrath, Hatred, and Anger with Trinity but had thought Trinity wasn't doing anything since they weren't different hits. Now I'll have to play around with the different choices.
So guys, how are you feeling about Storm Rain and area of effect interaction? Do you think beams has any thickness or is it just a line without any area? Visually I don't see changes in spark animation but maybe it's kinda hard to see.
For now I only understood that if you have higher area of effect then distance between your bolts can be higher to activate them and vice versa. Also bolts has minimum distance to activate so one that standing really close isn't working until new bolt on a higher distance isn't present.

The area doesnt seem to affect the beams themself and yeah that means its basically just a way to scale distance between arrows

Started with Storm Rain, but the mapping is kind awful...

My setup now is

- Lightning Arrow for clear
- Focused Ballista Storm Rain for additional dmg when needed (harder mobs and bosses)

Actual PoB: https://pastebin.com/4bYDcy0T

Already with some tweaks in mind, mainly on the tree (like getting the Phys -> Cold conversion nodes)
