It is very much viable, sadly I just overtook the champion dps wise with my slayer (in PoB at least <_<) Champ still takes less damage, but slayer is up front in dps regards on bosses at least. On normal mobs he is behind by 3%.

Yes you can I guess, I'd go Blood in the Eyes -> Gratuitous Violence -> Arena Challenger -> Outmatch and Outlast. Tho I'm not really a gladiator main, might be that you wanna go the more defensive route.

Pulverise helps quite a bit yes, also having the foils helps a lot (many ppl run around with swords not realizing it has lower weapon range)

Well Slayer has overleech + more Aoe, from new calculations also more bossdamage. Champion on the other hand has more damage on normal mobs and is quite a bit tankier (taunt 6% less damage taken, +1k Evasion and Armour) and is a bit faster due to Inspirational and increased aura effect which applies to vaal haste.

Yes on the Close Combat one, damage would be lower for a bigger range, but also you hit more and can move closer to stuff that doesn't die as fast. And we have so much damage on both versions, that this is mostly not required.

Little update here
Skilltree:
-Charging Offensive is has been replaced by Brutal Blade on the Skilltree
-Life and Mana Leech node taken out for some more Attackspeed + Critchance

Gems:
-Increased Duration on Immortal Call + Vulnerabilitysetup removed, replaced with Summon Lightning Golem
-Summon Lightning Golem moved away, so we support Leap Slam with Endurance Charge on Stun and Fortify now for extra defense

Champion/Slayer:
Slayer has officially beaten Champion DPS wise even without the 20% cull. This mainly happens due to the fact that I built in 2 rings now that reduce the total cost of all skills to 0, so we can fit another aura in. On mobs Champion is still stronger and also defensively ahead, 12% movementspeed increase is also quite nice, but Slayer beats it currently with increased AOE, overleech and generally higher Boss-DPS.

It's still up to you what you take, Champion is a bit tankier with 6% less damage on Bosses, while Slayer has more DPS there and is better at clearing Maps fast.

I never thought the DPS would actually feel this good, so we might overkill it with Champion in Maps and are better of increasing the overall AOE to run through the maps faster. But that's up to everyone else.

Definitely Did not think you would respond that quickly!

So I edited this in, but how do you reliably generate frenzy charges for phase run? It seems like I'm not really getting many of those while running.

Also in response to your questions, it really seems like Champion V Slayer is pretty much preference, since the weakness/ benefits of each can be offset by gems. Am I missing something big?

Just read your update post above, I'm going to play around in PoB and maybe switch. At least I only have the first lab done. :D

This is only my second league, so its definitely possible.

I check in every once in a while :p

You mostly generate it in maps from blood rage, on bosses from adds and a 10% chance when you block attack damage. But honestly you don't need them, I never calculated them into DPS anyway, and dps wise we're already beyond the sky.

Main point for slayer is mapping honestly, the aoe + survivability are really good. But it lacks in tankiness at bosses. Almost all the defense from slayer comes from Fortify, Endurance Charges, Overleech and Infused Channeling, while Champion has built in 6% less damage taken from taunted enemies +1k armour + evasion if you impaled recently + a few armour + evasion% notes.

13M vs 15M shaper DPS, at that point the dmg is so high it almost doesn't matter.

You may change my mind when I see a video with a huge aoe slayer cyclone, but for now I think I'm sticking with the champ.

Multicrafting is a suffix so you can't get attack speed, crit chance and crit multi with it.
what you think about swaping closecombat for pulverise ??
man I read this thread *yesterday* and it was all like "Slayer has better survivability with leech, but Champion has better DPS" and now we're all "jk Slayer has better DPS and Champion has better survivability", can't keep up with this fast-paced modern world
In your forum post you say "Blood rage+ Flesh and Stone + Maim Support"

but in PoB its only Maim support and Blood rage eventhough maim support doesnt work on blood rage.

Any idea?
