[3.6] The Blizz Sorc - Icestorm/Winter Orb CI Occultist - Viable For Everything
" Yes, your cold resistance should be highest to get the penetration effect. Ideally is to have all 3 resistance values equal to get the reduced elemental damage taken bonus from the flask for all 3 elements but that is not easy to accomplish. " Yeah, it's a bit of a pain. You basically just need to hit her until she spawns a syndicate member. Kill them, then hit her some more until you get a blackflame debuff on you. Once you have that debuff (you'll be lit up in green and black fire), run to the correct pillar (there will be a pointer on you and that pillar will be lit up) stick next to the pillar until it pops then run away from the burning ground... repeat four times. I found it easier to run it without blood rage, so i could just avoid damage for a couple seconds to heal up.. lots of phases and such in the battle. |

Good day!
So it looks like a lot of you higher level exiles are using very different gems in staff as opposed to guide. Even the author is not using what's listed on page 1. I'm curious if there will be a change to which set-up is "most recommended," for both clearing and boss weapons. Also, I have 2 staffs, one has 17% and the other 18% to increased Int. How significant is that 1% difference? Thanks for any replies, I'm level 88 and really enjoying the build! I tried the scion version for a short time during one of the previous race events, didn't have the time to get high level there, but it was fun! |

Happy New Year everyone!
I started playing PoE in December and first I would like to say thank you to Kelvynn for the build and efforts to describe it. Also I would like to thank all expert players who comment here and post their setups and comments - that helps a lot. This is my first character in the game and I am having a very good time getting through the content playing it. I have few questions, which I would like to ask for help with clarifying: 1) This build Tankiness So as a newbie player I am having a hard time with many bosses, as I see them for the first time, and do not their attacks very well. I do not care much about clearing speed or any speed for that matter, I am not in a hurry :) My questions around tankiness are: a) am I correct in understanding, that a lot of things in the game will still one-shot me - no matter the gear and setup? b) what are the adjustments in my current setup that I could make in order to increase my survivability? Does changing frostbite to enfeeble help with that? 2) Gear a) would somebody be so kind to advise - what is the BEST possible gear in all the slots? this would help to get a certain goal to the crafting, loot, etc etc - because currently I have only the guideline from Kelv that Int is most important, with ES and Res after that. What I would like to understand is the ideal item for each slot with ideal mods in order of priority. I understand that it's a lot of work, but it helps to a newbie player SO MUCH that I couldn't emphasize it more. All in all I would be very grateful if some expert player will take a quick look at my char and give me some advice how to move forward in terms of gear. Thanks a lot! |

" Enfeeble curse helps survivability a lot, Frostbite is for a dual curse setup or farming stuff where you have no danger of dying. Also make sure Fortify buff from Vigilant Strike is always up against bosses etc. A few changes to gear I'd recommend: 1 - Since you're using a Watcher's Eye and Vitality aura you can lose the life leech gem for another dps gem. 2 - Stop using your weapon swap staff for levelling purities and use that for your boss killing setup. The 5l clearing gem setup isn't set in stone but this is working out very well for me while leeching using a Watcher's Eye. The boss killing setup is more straightforward (you only need to link winters orb with cast while channeling here since it does negligible damage on bosses) 3 - Get -mana cost of skills on one or both rings, with a 5l you'll run out of mana fairly quickly which will be a dps loss when you stand and channel for a while. |

Thanks a lot Randall!
But losing Life Leech means being less tanky? Isn't this life leech stack with life leech from jewel? Also a question that I forgot (and I saw someone already asked it here, but somehow I cannot find the answer): How everyone is managing mana problems? No one i look has any mana regen in gear, but how do you channel your orb if you dont have it? |
|
" Yeah it does stack but there is a cap on the amount you can leech per second so having life leech from the gem and watcher's eye is overkill, another dps gem is better in most situations. Easiest way to solve mana problems is get a ring with an open prefix and craft - total mana cost of skills on it like so I'm not sure if one ring with -8 to -9 is quite enough and that costs 1ex per craft so I went with the cheaper version on both rings instead. " I'll take a stab... When built correctly, and geared well, you should be able to facetank.. IE stand in one spot, and ignore most boss damage. You heal through doing damage, and even more so with a ES on hit Watcher's eye, so you want to boss a bit aggressively, and not run around as much as other builds. This goes double for using the protection of Arctic armor, that only works when you're not moving. I have over 13,000 ES, and with our other layered protections VERY few things can one-shot me. Pretty much only top tier bosses with 2 or more added damage mods. Regarding your gear... You have everything on the right track, you just have upgrades to get. Here is my wishlist for "perfect items" Weapon - Max rolled WI staff (obviously) Helmet - 300+ ES helmet with 55-60 Int, and -9 cold resistance to nearly enemies" Amulet - You want a 6% intelligence corrupted Astramentis... but BIS would be a rare shaper amulet with a TON of stats and 1% damage per 15 Int, and total increased attributes. Body Armor - 700+ ES 55+ int, 12% increased Intelligence (shaper mod) 6% increased Attributes (crafted mod).. or possibly a +1 curse crafted mod, if you want to double curse. Rings - 50 Int (or more) as much Energy shield as you can get. I find rings are a good place to get your resists as well. In a perfect world, you would want both of those to have the 6% intelligence corruption. Gloves - 200+ ES, 55 int, and Increased Damage with Hits against Chilled Enemies. Belt - 15% increased Attributes, with a 6% increased Intelligence Corruption Cyclopean Coil Boots - 200+ ES 55+ int, As much movement speed as you can get. Enchanted with the mana/life leech. General rules for gearing... You want Intelligence more than anything else. Int is both your damage and your defense. You also want as high of ES as you can get. This will get scaled by your high intelligence, making a perfect build able to get over 15,000 Energy shield. You obviously want to balance your resistances any way you can with the rare gearing items, after that, the other mods are just quality of life, or additional stats etc. And yes, if you are running a Vitality aura and the Watcher's Eye for it, you don't need the life leech gem in your Whispering Ice. The Leech from the Vit aura will be more than enough to cap out your leech rate without the extra from the gem. Another damage gem would do ALOT more for you. |
