No, it's not talented artist that make a difference, it's the decision maker (talented manager..) that make the difference. Saying "Fuck off do it again" isn't an option when you manage people, if something look crap, even if you have average artist, you have to say no and give guideline

Yeah, but you have to consider, that these were made in CRT era, ergo 1024x768 was luxury.
^yeah smaller scale with less animations. Diablo 1 and 2 were actually some weird 2.5D grid with "sticker-like models". not fully 3D (hence why there is are so little frames between animations).

also wait, what is that egg-thingy in the first screenie? something from the act 2 palace?

Fun fact:

Character models look like garbage so you would spend your money on MTX, the problem I have is the character animations are downright horrible.

I am not saying I expect Street Fighter 5 level of god like animations by any means, but the animations of characters in this game is very very bad. In this world we live in apparently you have to choose between gameplay and graphics. Though you won't have to choose in the case of Injustice 2 or DBFZ since both are solid in every aspect.

Who can actually notice the character model when youre spewing clusterfucks of spells and attacks at 4 actions per second?

Honestly some of the best looking poe graphics was around beta when they were using post processing. Reminds me of the beautiful old school graphics from games like ice wind dale.

Zoomed in PoE can certainly look dated.
But you don't play zoomed in.

Zoomed out PoE still looks very good overall, if you ask me it's still the best looking isometric ARPG (probably for lack of real competition, but still..)

Performance in cancer though.

Had to comment. I still play Betrayal once every year or two. One of the best RPGs ever made. Love the mountains that are solid green 3-4 sided pyramids. It's the only game I've ever played that I got into the story and characters. (The pic is Locklear, Owen and Gorath, on their way to Krondor in the first act. In front of the Temple of Sung?)

Now if some of the really old timers want nostalgia, here ya go. The original Colossal Cave Adventure. It was always just called "Adventure". It wasn't until 40 years later that I knew it even had another name.
