I dont think some of you remember 1998 too well...

return to krondor was a late 1998 game, for example:

Nostalgia combined with fallibility of memory can be terrible to accept. Look no further than the "deluxe" 80s toys every major toy manufacturer is making these days for cashed up gen X adults. Theyre as well made as we remember them and roughly the same size...except theyre waaaay higher quality and quite a lot bigger.

Fwiw betrayal at krondor wasnt cutting edge graphics for 98. Unreal was the big one. And there are times when poe looks as dated as we likely remember that game.

A more fair call would be poe looks like its from the mid 2000s design wise with flourishes of modern flair.
unreal was a FPS with a sparkling brand-new engine. if you look at first far cry or crysis, contemporary games in other genres dont look too good in comparison as well.

rpgs were never at the forefront of tech progress. and 98-2002 was the '4 polygons and a low-res texture' time. hell, its not an a rpg, but gabriel knight 3 always comes to mind, lol

and btw I only comment on the way games looked. nostalgia isnt really a thing since I play games from early 90s all the time cuz games nowadays suck ass ideas-wise and I dont really care about looks or UI or any other bullshit like that.

oh and you're confusing betrayal at krondor and return to krondor. betrayal is a all-time RPG classic game from 1993

return is just an average RPG. and 3d graphics was a novelty for rpgs at the time
I got one of those light armours in a mystery box. No matter which character I put it on I feel like Im a gobot whos half way towards turning into a fighter jet.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Tbh. the hips and shoulders of these charmodels look way nicer than the templar ones and the character models' calfs look as angular shaped as the marauder calf. ^^

PoE char models were ugly in 2013, by 2013 standard.
It was not a as much a technical issue but artistic issue, coming from a 3D Artist.
There are games with similar poly count release in 2013 that looks much better

The model bove have probably same, or less poly count than the ones in PoE, but the hair doesn't look like paste on like Duelist or Ranger for a start.

Look at the armor, its not particular high poly, but look goods & fit well.

Talented artists make a big difference.

Marauder crossdresser looks awesome too. ;)

haha that looks funny as hell x'D
3.26 when?
Don't abandon us. don't turn your backs on the ones loving poe.
I honestly can't play the Templar because of how malformed he looks. It is not that his proportions are unheard of; there are funny shaped folks all over the place. It is just that I can't picture myself running around slaughtering things and looking that way.

Plus he is left handed. Come on.
Thanks for all the fish!

Come on, the character models look just plain horrible. Of course there are ways to cover them up so they don't look that horrible but still. Please take a look at the templar the guy looks seriously retarded (even with 99% of all mtxs). And the face of the marauder....... I can't even...... no I give up....

This friend, is why i play shadow. only chyaracter looking good so far and i'm struggling with him because i'm playing duellist way..

When i started back in 2011 i was looking at character and was like.. ok i don't play girls so no ranger no witch.. no option for sex change? hmm.. Marauder look retard, duelist should look like a gladiator and not an jerk boi comming from reallity tv show even if ios background make it a noble. Templar? old guy without pant? no go.. i tried, but after lvl 70 i couldn't stand him anymore. Shadow.. shadow.. at least it look ok but i hate thief/assassin character.. wait, because of this amazing skill tree i can play nearly what i want? sign me up for a shadow playing warrior style no matter what.
But today it's more complicated because GGG force you to play only few option for your character (Shadow must be dagger/chaos/trap..) but this is another story

Too bad that was all the talent the D3 team had. I'll take a fun game with worse looking characters over the pos that was D3.

It's kinda sad when you add 3 more years and find game, that have better models, than game from 2013-2018

Even D1 didn't looked bad
