Like Linegae II or Dota 2? That will never happen, this game can not offer what those games are offering. And as your observation is based on those games, than you are right.
I agree that there is marketing based hype in the beginning. Core players stays, but I agree more players are leaving game: from core based players and causal as well. Nevertheless people still connect to play a bit, but are spending less time in game overall - AoE nerf made many players exhausted pretty soon, builds are completed much faster as there are less possibilities how to make builds to shine, less items to hunt... But causal players are those who bring most profit in this stage of game so more players will connect, but will not spend so much time in game like before 2.6.
