Whoops, my bad. I overlooked the title completely. I saw you added a Gladiator build to your skill tree link, too, but figured I wouldn't edit my comment because I was still curious.

I wasn't really planning on getting spell block items either way. I guess I don't see it as that important since we can have 75% ele mitigation, but far lower physical mitigation. Maybe I'm just too sensitive to physical melee damage since I usually play casters. You do have a Fortify + Leap Slam setup, but wouldn't that Fortify only last 5 seconds? Do you Leap Slam around that much?

Violent Retaliation seems a little weak to me. It's only 4% increased damage per block. How often are we really blocking?

Spell block is extremely powerful, you're underestimating the danger they pose. It is especially powerful with bosses like Atziri. Without it, this build wouldn't be able to do Atziri at all.

If you use Leap Slam for movement - which you should - then you'll always have fortfiy up.

That's the point: Violent Retaliation is weak if you have low block. But if you have 75% block chance AND 75% spell block chance, you block 3 out of 4 attacks and 3 out of spells. Since you're melee and are in the thick of the action all the time, that is quite a lot of blocks. Especially if you're confronting fast attacking monsters. For example, check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEofW8amDhc can you even try to count the amount of blocks that happen within 4 seconds? (btw, this amount of blocking also wouldn't be possible without spell block, since vaal construct projectiles are spells, not attacks).

But is that an average situation? Even with capped block and spell block, will you really be blocking that often? Will you really be getting hit that often? I'm just not sure the increased DPS compares to 3+ Frency charges each giving +4% more damage or exploding monsters for 20% of their health.

I'd say that in average you could have up to 10 blocked attacks in the last 4 seconds. That is, in average, 40% increased damage and 20% inc movement speed.

What frenzy charges are you talking about, there's no frenzy charge nodes in Gladiator?

If you want to go for Gratuitous Violence instead of block, that's completely OK, I'm just telling you what I would prefer more :) Gratuitous Violence might give you a bit more dps, but the cost you have to pay is not worth it in my opinion. (For example, the spell block makes you a lot more tankier than going for Champion and always having fortify.)

But I'm wondering, if you don't take Soul of Steel, wouldn't it be better to path through the Scion life..... rectangle area? Unless, unwavering stance is completely necessary but I'm not sure if it will be considering how little physical damage this build will take. Tell me what you think of this one.

Edit: Also, this tree gets more life to further mitigate stuns.

Thanks.

The frenzy charges would come from Outmatch and Outlast. It'd be a reliable +16% more damage. Do you think that +40% increased damage is better than +16% more damage? And the attack speed and movement speed that come with those frenzy charges (so maybe 4% less movement speed, assuming it works as optimally as you said).

I agree that going Gladiator instead of Champion would be better to take advantage of the block chance I'll already have. I'm just not sure what to get after the obvious first four points.

Oh, right, looking at ascendancy classes so much, things get mixed up. Sure, you can go for Outmatch, but you still benefit only from 50% of that node (since you don't dual wield).

If you'd want to go for DPS after the spell block node, go for Gratuitous Violence, with the corpse explosions, it should net you better pack clear speed than Outmatch.

I think I will, but I am still worried that it might be redundant. I'll be using either Infernal Blow or Ice Crash, and I think it might be overkill. Can't decide which skill to run - I have a legacy BoR, but I accidentally Vaal'd it into RRRW, so I'm somewhat limited.

Is infernal blow even that good? i didnt see that many builds with that skill and i dont want to use ice crash becouse i find its sound/animation so annoying :D . Is static strike still a top tier skill to use with this build? what do you think about earthquake and sunder?

You can play without Unwavering, although you might have problems with stuns in some boss fights, especially tier 13+ maps.

You can do that, but again, you lose some DPS for not taking Bloody Bludgeon. You gain 16% more life, so if that's what you prefer, go with it.

Infernal blow is ok after they finally buffed it in patch 2.1. by buffing not only the IB gem itself, but also Melee Splash. Static strike is also good. Ice crash is the most powerful of the 3, IB the most fun (for me at least).

Earthquake and Sunder seem pretty powerful, but they are ideal for 2-handed weapons, since the emphasis is so much on them as 1-hit-and-run skills. You might try them in this build, but I'm not sure if they will be as powerful as with 2-handed weapons.
