I'd love to be able to help you out more, but I can't keep holding your hand while working with an OS that I myself am not familiar with. I use Debian and while it's close, it is not the same thing, nor does it use the same package repositories.
The problems you are having are not PoE problems, but problems with Mint itself. I know you're new to it, but you really need to figure out how it all works and how to make it bend to your will before we'll be able to assist you here. Maybe try some of the Mint forums or other Mint related sites to see if anyone there could be of more assistance. As I said, you problems right not are not PoE releated. This is a PoE support forum and you're just not familiar enough with Mint to know what to do.
So go figure out how to use Mint if you're set on using it (I wouldn't) and once you're able to understand the package system and how to get it to work properly and install what you need, you know what you need to do. At that point, you will be more ready to get PoE to work.
Your video card is Pixel Shader 3.0 compliant so it should be able to run PoE. You just need to get nvidia-glx installed for 32-bit (and 64-bit if that's what your system uses). If you get the video card stuff fixed, you should be able to run PoE. If not, come back with a new error and we can help diagnose what else might be missing.
