How to make GGG Profitable

I could also mention LOTRO, DDO, DCUO who have all gone free to play and have become fairly profitable after this fact. Although these still have some sort of subscription you can pay for as well.

Mnah, LOTRO, DDO and DCUO are freemium games. You can play about 3/5 of the content for free. With DDO it is especially bad, because the free content never gets expanded, all the content they add is premium. Rumour has it that you can farm enough currency to buy all the content, but from my experience, it is a long and painful process - I don't have the time for this. Now, I don't mind that, I just don't play the game, because of my personal principle not to subscribe to games. Ever. And buying all the content in DDO is way too expensive, it keeps me away from playing the game knowing I won't access things. I love it better if a free game sells power and has no restrictions to the content for free and paying users, even better if the power is obtainable in ANY way.

I am curious to see how they will go about Path of Exile. They can keep this kickstart thing up for ages for example - nothing wrong about just giving your money to a good game without getting something valuable back. Same as there's nothing wrong with not spending anything on a free game - it's free after all, the developers KNOW many people won't spend money. I probably will in the future, when I am not so broke. :|
Games were better when devs didn't listen to player feedback.

LoL is mildly pay to win given a large amount of people just buy their champions with RP, and don't have countless amount of cash to buy them with unlike some 30's, we need runes etc still.

Have you gotten to 30? Buying a couple champs you still will get full runes for a few pages if you don't waste them. And I would like to know what your "etc" is. Anyway after thirty basically all your ip can go to champs. I don't know why you need to buy all of them as I doubt you are good at all of them. Also alot of champs are useless (sorry riot). So I disagree. Really the only money you should spend is for skins.
LoL is far from pay to win.
Champ diversity helps.. but I can't think of any game that has a better model than LoL does quite frankly.
I own almost all the champions, and have multiple full runes pages, and I've bought maybe 5 champs?

I'm not sure if it's appropriate at this time to say if GGG is profitable or not, the game has not even been officially released yet so i doubt there's a serious marketing formula right now. They allowed us to donate and get bonuses like the Kiwi's and closed beta keys because we basically begged GGG to allow us to.

Trough micro-transactions for cosmetic things, and your own bloody leagues will most likely earn GGG enough to keep paying the staff their salaries, rent, server hosting and whatnot.

GGG doesn't have to grow into a million-dollar company to keep producing PoE.
Shoep - Default league Ranger
Peohs - Any other class or character i play.
Jhuvik - My Marauder
Merialeth - My witch

GGG has a strong stance against Pay to win. But this really doesnt sound got to a profit organization.

My statement, i am not saying that i support Pay to win formula. But, to make this Good developer go even further, profit is the Key, my suggestion :

Player that can pay deserved more ( not advantage ) like:
1) A more interesting league for Paid-Subscriber only.
- How to make it interesting? Open for discussion.

Guys, dont feel mad with me, honestly i think payment is the greatest reward for good developer, if you think this game is good, pay them. So they can be better. If you guys keep this ANTI PAYMENT stance in every game, get lost from this industry. You are the parasite.

I dont like pay-to-win, but i wish GGG have a way to collect their rewards for building this Great Game and make it even better.

Is that what it would take for you to pay? Or did you pay the 10$ ammount?

Dont know what you heard but aslong as the items in the shop look good, or make the game feel good like the extra gore, or whatever people will pay. They can even make more alternative monster areas that are more intresting but give the same xp for paying members. Theres alot you can do without giving somone power.
Less is more. The F2P format will cash in for GGG in the long run for the most loyalist members. They like the game and will therefore contribute to its developing. And right now a lot of people like it even before its on Open.
I don't like the idea of an exclusive league. Not because I think it would be unfair or P2W-like, but because I don't see the purpose or appeal. Why would I treat it as a reward to have what amounts to a separate smaller division to roll toons in? It wouldn't make sense to design an interesting new ruleset for a custom league and then not use that league for other players at all - actual gameplay content that is paid-only would at least push the limits of their 'ethical microtransactions' promise, and it would just be a waste of good content. If it's just the same as HC/Default/Legacy, why would I ever want to roll a toon in that 'exclusive' league? It just means less other players to trade, quest, and PvP with, for both sets of leagues.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing GGG go a bit further monetizing the game, but given the overwhelming success of the pre-purchase program, I'm cautiously optimistic that they can actually keep the game profitable with just cosmetic/convenience purchases. I'm sure some of us will make periodic real money purchases even if we don't want anything specifically, just to send GGG more money.
OP: People will take you more seriously if you paid for the game. Seems a little hypocritical to say: "hey guys, pay for the game, support them!" when you're riding on a free pass.

pfffffahahahahah

Do you KNOW how much money the makers of FM have made?! It's like the #1 game on steam for concurrent players... consistently. Day by day by day. And it's basically just a port of excel.

Anything you read on video game piracy should be heavily scrutinized. Just recently, Ubisoft claimed that over 93% of PC sales are lost due to piracy.

Using Ubisoft's numbers, they are proposing that Skyrim SHOULD have sold well over

5,012,468/0.07 = 71,606,685 copies

Which is utterly ridiculous. That's like saying one third of the US population could have been playing Skyrim on Steam with a gaming rig capable of running it; a single player RPG selling between $40 and $60 during that statistic.

All research on piracy shows that pirates are some of the biggest supporters of video games (by the amount of money they spend on video games yearly).

GGG's f2p scheme will work. They've already made 1Million+ off a very small community while in CB.

But piracy is probably less than 10% of "lost sales" -- don't let publishers and developers EVEN TRY to fool you; they're just trying to disguise their attempts at forcing DRM, DLC, and other bullshit down your throat.
