How to make GGG Profitable

GGG has a strong stance against Pay to win. But this really doesnt sound got to a profit organization.

My statement, i am not saying that i support Pay to win formula. But, to make this Good developer go even further, profit is the Key, my suggestion :

Player that can pay deserved more ( not advantage ) like:
1) A more interesting league for Paid-Subscriber only.
- How to make it interesting? Open for discussion.

"It's really disappointing that there are so many people out there who love our work, and spend countless hours being entertained by it, but don't think we deserve to get paid for that entertainment."
Sports Interactive boss Miles Jacobson, maker of the hugely popular Football Manager series, on piracy.

Guys, dont feel mad with me, honestly i think payment is the greatest reward for good developer, if you think this game is good, pay them. So they can be better. If you guys keep this ANTI PAYMENT stance in every game, get lost from this industry. You are the parasite.

I dont like pay-to-win, but i wish GGG have a way to collect their rewards for building this Great Game and make it even better.

"Today we sent out a press release announcing that we have sold over $200,000USD of supporter packs to over 13,000 fans. 13 people have bought the Diamond Pack so far."

What the hell are you on about?

Also, you're preaching about Anti-Piracy... Of a FREE TO PLAY game.

...Right.

PS: Get the hell off your high horse, I don't see a Supporter tag under your name.

<--- would pay another 1000$ to make either,

My Diamond Kiwi, turn into a Herd of Kiwi (20+)

Or To turn Zombies -> Zombie Kiwi.

Given the ARPG style, alot of the skill animations, I think this style will work.

If you build it players will come.

There are more Diamonds as of now, I think I was #15

insert random Zynga game name here, or how about League of Legends...all of which are completely free to play and are extremely successful and are not pay to win.

I could also mention LOTRO, DDO, DCUO who have all gone free to play and have become fairly profitable after this fact. Although these still have some sort of subscription you can pay for as well.

LoL is mildly pay to win given a large amount of people just buy their champions with RP, and don't have countless amount of cash to buy them with unlike some 30's, we need runes etc still.

Skins are a different matter lots of people buy them

I have no doubt if PoE is successful the cash shop will hit off very well.
No need to get upset at the OP, he wants the same as us; for GGG to succeed. He just isn't aware how a Free-2-Play game can generate income.

The best example would be Team Fortress 2, it started out as a regular game that you had to buy either from a retailer or through Steam. Valve discovered that they were making more money selling virtual items for the game. They eventually decided that the player base would grow and actually make them more money by making the game free to play, thereby selling even more virtual items.

...just because a game doesn't cost money to buy, doesn't mean it won't generate income. In fact games that sell virtual items (cosmetic or otherwise) can generate more income in the long run. Now GGG has made it clear they are creating a Free-2-Play game that is NOT Pay-2-Win, which is commendable in many ways. The issue that we're all aware of is how they will turn a profit, or even afford to run the servers.

With Path of Exile's current (small) user base, a month ago GGG opened up the shop for supporters and was able to bring in $200k+ (probably much more by now) selling only extra character slots and extra stash tabs (with minor rewards for different supporter tiers). I think that alone proves that their business model will work. Just wait until they start advertising the game and offering cool cosmetic items. I don't know what these will be, but I can guess.

Pants (who doesn't want to give their character a nice pair of pants)

Extra Gore (client side - make the game extra bloody and gruesome for your own amusement)

Spell effects - visible to everyone, get crazier visual effects for your spells..

Auras - probably these will be the most popular, make your character stand out by giving him/her a glowing aura - there could be tons of these, I would buy them all.

They could go further and somehow offer skins for different weapons/armor/equipment... there are plenty of options for virtual sales that don't give game play advantage. You don't need to exclude users who choose to just play the game without paying for anything, that will just split the community.

Heck... while I don't care for the real money auctions in Diablo 3. GGG could create an auction house where people can bid with orbs or items to trade. Then they could offer an option for sellers to list their listings in bold to make them stand out, that could cost 10 points or something.

Anyways, I'm just tossing around possibilities as there are a lot of things they could do without affecting game play for anyone or splitting up the community by creating pay-only leagues (which I would hate to see happen).

Couldn't you tell the original poster wants to make money from this game by farming?
POE is a constantly evolving game, so expect balance changes, buffs and nerfs STILL!

I think they'll do just fine and I'm sure their strong anti-p2w stand will bring in more people to play the game and eventually spend some money on cosmetic items.

If they did what you propose and introduced p2w elements that would turn a lot of people off from trying the game out in the first place and finding out for themselves how awesome it is(and worth spending money on).

If you're really concerned about the profit GGG is making, and you yourself are opposed to p2w as you claim, donating money to support them is really easy.
I am pretty cute resistant person and tend to be practical. The f*ing Kiwi actually worked to get extra money out of me. I do not think they are going to have problems selling cosmetic stuff and practical slot stuff.

Of course the future is unknown. I am sure they have thought of most of these and might have some in their pocket if they are not making enough once its actually been published. Its like the steam suggestion that somewhat brings up at least once a weeks; if they need it its there, but they are going to try running their way first.
