Since you're going witch, have you considered taking Zealot's Oath and making it an ES RF build?

Chances are going ES is not seen as a reasonable goal due to it being more gear-intensive than going life.

It's reasonable, it's just as you said, more gear-intensive.
LLRF has always been the endgame goal, as it ramps up your damage considerably, and provides better regen / degen as it's now working off ES instead of Life.

To the topic of marauder vs witch: People also forgetting that all sources of flat regen are essentially getting doubled this patch, which makes them much more valuable than percentage based regen until ...probably the vast majority of players. Stone golems shouldn't be stuck at the old 90ish regen value ..they should be close to doubled. This makes the buff bonus to golems way more enticing, including using eminence jewels ( which are always cheap ).

hey! gonna try this build for Heist league. Do you think it'll be OK for casual players?

How the transition to RF has to be?

Thanks!

I've only played RF once, but if I had to speculate this will be fine for casual players - the hardest part will be the transition.

Imo, it won't be that hard because the new skill flame wall will take advantage of all the support gems you'll be leveling and passive points you'll be allocating, so that looks like great fun to level up with until you're ready to light yourself on fire.

Ofc, if Flame Wall looks dumb or boring to you, replace that with the fire skill of your choice until you're ready to burn.

Hey cesele!

I hope you enjoy the build! Let me know what you think. This build is fantastic for casual and serious players alike.

The transition to RF is really easy. The witch has lots of fire spells to help you level and RF could be sustained (in 3.11 without Vitality) with only normal gear by level 64. So it should be even easier to transition now with the changes to Vitality.

While I really liked your previous Chieftain build a lot, transformation to Elementalist is just bad.

The reason is RF requires you to go toe-to-toe with dangerous enemies which makes you take lots of high damage hits. Surviving those hits is a key and Elementalist is too squishy.

Let's compare what we get from Elementalist ascendancy:
+2 golems, 150% increased buffs from golems, 105% increased chance to avoid elemental ailments and some increased damage.
+18% all elemental resist.

And now Chieftain provides:
+4% life regen (4x0,5% + 2%)
+1 endurance charge and passive endurance charge gain
0,5% life regen per endurance charge (7 charge = 3,5% regen)
+110% fire resist
Lots of damage increases.

For RF the core of survivability is life regen, and ascendancy alone provides 7,5% against 0% from elementalist. Also double elemental resists, which allow you to be more flexible with gear choise.
Basically you want to have as high chaos resist as possible, since lots of dangerous bosses deal chaos damage. And it will be so much easier to get it in gear if you are not so stretched with ele resists.

Spending 4 ascendancy points on golems made me scratch my head. I have played full golemancer build with 10 golems and even then I got occasionally 1-shotted by bosses. Buffs golems provide are so mediocre at best.
But I agree, there are no better choices in Elementalist ascendancy.

In addition, if you start levelling the build, you need lots of life regen to sustain RF. But most of these nodes in passive tree are in marauder and templar area. It takes quite long time to reach it from witch starting area.
So at best you could start using RF when you reach maps and have some of the necessary uniques. It will be tough to make up the 7,5% life regen you get for free.
Hey vasarhai!

I'm glad you liked the 3.11 version of the guide so much! Every build has it's pros and cons for sure. Even though the Cheif is perfect for RF, in my opinion, so is the Elementalist. I think you'll be surprised if you give it a shot. There's actually just as much offence and defence as the previous version of the build.

Whats the point of put rigtheous fire to an elementalist If you cant stay near any monster If you wanna live?. You dont have any layer of defenses and you will die from oneshots by every little monster you pass near by.Or I miss something?. I made a golemancer last league. My golems are doing millons of damage but If I stay close to a boss sometimes I die from oneshots. and I have 70% physical dam. reduction, resists cap., chaos resist cap., use brass dome. And with all those stats I die from oneshots.
Hey yissus!

I agree, a build isn't worth playing much if you get one-shot all the time. So I did lots of testing to ensure that this build can handle all the endgame content. I wouldn't have switched to an Elementalist if it didn't work :). But I think you'll be surprised by the survivability of this build.

I must be missing something, but PoB says skitterbots, vitality and purity of fire each reserve 35% mana. And since the build posted does not have any reduced mana reservation, 35+35+35=105.

New vitality have flat reservation
Correct! Vitality is no longer 35%. So we'll be able to squeeze in all three.

do you guys reckon it's possible to sustain RF as a mana hiero? that more dmg bonus is so damn juicy
what's the minimum fire res needed typically?
Hey Konoseki!

I haven't played with the idea of Heiro and RF. Sorry. But you always want the highest maximum fire resistance you can get.

Thanks for making this guide!

For those noobs among us, can you tell us approximately which directions we should be traveling on the skill tree as we level up, as well as the order of Elementalist skills we should get from each lab? Just very basic stuff would help immensely.

Hi! Long time RF player here. You are heavily underestimating Flat Regeneration values and Golem buffs.

While the buffs don't add up per golem the effect of Ascendancy does. That means 200% Increased Golem buffs (or 230% counting tree) as you will have 4 golems. That is -
Stone Golem: ~380 Life regeneration. Translates to ~4.2% Life regen for 9k Life build and 9.5% Life regen for 4k Life build (early progression/leveling).
Chaos Golem: 14% Physical Damage reduction.
Flame Golem: 74% Increased Damage.

The +18% all elemental resist allows for more flexible gear than Chieftains +110% Fire resistance. Chieftain requires less resists on the gear however there are more options for Witch as Fire resistance isn't a dead stat if we are talking about efficiency.

Witch also has considerable amount of damage increases:
80% from 4 Summoned Golems.
40% Increased Elemental damage from Minor Nodes.
Pendulum alternates between AoE (clearing) and damage on equal cycle giving 37.5% Increased Elemental damage on average.

Additionally having over capped Elemental Ailment avoidance means you have to only worry about ground effects. This is especially relevant with Shock.

Overall Chieftain is more specialized and Witch is more all rounder. Neither are the most durable (Guardian) or fastest clearing (Trickster) ascendancies for RF. When comparing both, assuming a league start, Witch is more beginner friendly as well as you have easier access and can level with provided gems and have smoother transition to RF.
Awesome points BaltazarDZ!

I agree all around. I'm excited to explain it all and complete the guide. (I may steal your wording too ;).) Thanks for taking the time to be so thorough!
