[3.6] The Blizz Sorc - Icestorm/Winter Orb CI Occultist - Viable For Everything

"I finished day 2 goals"

are you saying your day-2 goals are 3 - 5 exalts?
man!! this is prob day 10/20 goal for me. :)
Lil, what's the rationale for going Inquisitor? We lose the immunity to Freeze/Chill, Profane Bloom, and 20% penetration; we get back 6% penetration, 10% increased damage, an extra Curse, and... consecrated ground.

Is the Enfeeble/Frostbite combo really that strong? It just doesn't feel like *enough.* Or is it just the extra 5 passive points and 60 Int (instead of 24% ES plus a smattering of tiny boosts)?

guys, give cyclone cwc a chance instead of Winter orb... the build feels sooo much smoother always moving, maybe a little less dps but who cares.. and the ice storm falls where you click not where you are

This exactly. I'm leveling with this right now and it feels amazing. Maybe I'll upload a video of it.

This is just me in the control blocks level 42 I think.

What sort of build are you using? Cyclone won't do much damage with no investment, and the build can't easily invest in both without some physical-to-cold conversion.

My guess is scion version of this build, except WO was switched to Cyclone.
In case you missed it, it is Icestorm build, NOT Winter Orb build.

Winter Orb is used to channel Icestorm while providing a nice clear speed for trash.
While we lose WO trash clearing, we instead get constant movement while at the same time casting Icestorm on aforementioned trash. Didn't try it yet but from the video it looks even better that WO version. It is now 1-button hold for Cyclone versus previous constant oscillation between holding 1 button to charge WO and clicking the other one to move (not counting flame dash because it is used in both versions).
A Noob question

Do we really need Zealot's Oath if we are using energy shield leech gem and things like Light Eater

Pretty much this. Also I have decided to go for Champion because of the Fortify uptime. In addition it comes with Taunted Enemies take 10% increased damage (with 25% to taunt with hits) and 8% Increased Movement speed.

Secondly I am trying Pathfinder for flask sustain and movespeed. It also has some ele pen. This is going to be for low tier mapping/zoom zoom. I'll likely go to Inquisitor, Elementalist, or Occultist when I get to harder content.

Currently sitting at 5.8k ES and 1.2k Int @ level 68.
Post Kitava, in preparation for maps gear

I chose to go Scion(Inquisitor/Occultist) because after the Occultist and ES "small" nerfs, we will struggle to get high ES on end-game. Ascendant has access to more Intelligence through more skill points, Ascendancy points and a better start position in order to socket more conversion jewels and Intelligence give us both damage and ES.

2 curses and immunity to stun granted by Scion - Occultist mini ascendancy are also great bonuses, it let's us go for 2nd offensive curse setup (Frostbite) or 2nd defensive curse setup (Temporal Chains). Stun immunity also let's us use Solaris/Lunaris Pantheon instead of Brine King.

The only downside I care about in endgame is loosing 100% immunity to freeze and chill for endgame encounters but that is compensated in a way by Inquisitor ascendancy of immune to ailments when on Consecrated Ground.

You can go Witch(Occultist) if you feel it suits better your play style, I just think is a bit weaker now when we calculate the numbers with end game gear.

Zealot's Oath is good cause it let's us convert 2% of life regen from tree (Shaper + 3 nodes near Scion start) + 6% of life regen while we are on Consecrated Ground + up to 2% of life regen when we stand still (Tukohama pantheon) into ES regen. 10% ES regen with just 1 skill point is a good trade off I think :). And this value is increased even more by 50% maximum ES recovery we take from tree

I've decided to unspec ZO and rely on The Sorrow of the Divine instead. It seems good so far, I don't think I even want a life flask with it: when I die, I have no time to save myself anyway. Maybe that's good on 10k+ ES tho, and in lab.

correct. all damage is from ice storm.. cyclone can MAYBE kill a straggler but thats not the point. Cyclone has a certain inertia, while the ice storm lands where you drag the mouse. so you can end up moving to the right while cwc ice storm to the left, it changes the whole dynamic of the build. you can pick up stragglers without moving to the spot. or kite bosses quite decently.
and advancing as a deathly storm front is so much fun in straight levels :)
added bonus for not having to constantly click mouse. I use it only for secondary extra ST dps ( mines for now until my int is higher)
am just levelling right now , done 2nd lab and am in act 10 and not ci yet (bc less than 2k es lol ) but even with my very inferior gear this is a lot of fun, even in this melee league. now if only coloring the staff wasnt such a pain... :(
have finally gotten used to the lab... I dont hate it anymore.:)
-> now if only coloring the staff wasnt such a pain... :(

5 blue and 1 green cost around 66chrom
4 blue and 2 green cost around 170chrom

-> Cyclone has a certain inertia
Would have been better if we can control the movement from wasd and use mouse for ice storm.

Anyway, I will give this a try.
