Hey Regarding issues with mana, it is not hard to get some item with leech, like a ring. I found a good one and that is only source of mana for me, never have an issue with running low. Spoiler Also got a little lucky in SSF, where getting one of those top end unique axes is unlikely for me :) Spoiler I find that playing with Blood and sand, Pride and Herald of Purity is really good when you do not have a Enlighten gem yet in SSF.
