I'll address your points in order:

Of course a Watcher's Eye with Cold Pen (at least) is BiS. But it's not a must to get the build rolling, rares are quite fine. Watcher's Eye with Flat Cold is also pretty darned good, as is Cold Conversion, as then you only need 1 GC jewel (or none with a perfect roll). The only Hatred Watcher's Eye that is useless is the Crit Chance one. But as I said, Rare jewels / abyss jewels are quite fine for end-game.

I don't quite understand your point on Enfeeble? Without a +1 curse amulet, I'd only have Warlord's Mark, unless you're playing a Berserker (and have leech for free). Using Elemental Weakness / Frostbite / Enfeeble / Temporal Chain is a personal choice, all of those work well.

Chance to shock is quite fine for bosses where you have a LOT of Cast Speed from jewels (the damage Shock adds to bosses is minimal (maybe 5% for Guardians, realistically), it mostly matters for the 5% MORE damage from the amulet and 30-50% Increased Damage from the chest). For clearing I use Elemental Proliferation, either as a gem (Ascendant/Berserker) or a class feature (Elementalist), and that means you only need to Shock one target (and have additional chances with the gem, or class feature timing).

Evasion is a great defence against attacks, as long as you don't get one hit, no doubt. Armor is only ever good for lots of small hits, and consistent leech (especially as a Scion) takes care of that quite nicely. That said, I never felt the need for Evasion or Armor with Blind + Acro. Spell Acro is ALWAYS worth if you're there. Don't forget it's not 6K Life, it's 6K life + 3k mana, which acts as a 44% MORE multiplier to Life if you have enough (which I do).

That is correct. But bear in mind that Cold Convert can save you the need for 1 or both of the Long Winter jewels.

More Life/Mana and DPS for bosses version:



Around 50% more DPS for bosses overall.

Clears a bit slower, no question, but still fast enough, and even better for bosses.

Thinking about going the shadow/assassin route. Any big show stoppers?

You mean an actual Assassin? Not a great idea.

If you mean replacing one of the choices as Scion with Assassin, you can, I just don't see why. Crit won't be a lot more dps, and even as Crit, Raider is more dps.

I don't generally recommend crit casters for GC, but come up with a Tree and gear in Path of Building, and I can critique it.

EDIT: Ok, I went over your Shadow. Even with much better gear and more levels, it simply ends up with less life, less mana, less damage (realistically), and no reliable leech or VP. I really don't recommend Crit GC (or Assassin), I'm afraid, at best you get here: https://pastebin.com/P6M5BjmN

I'm in agreement with you I think. That said, it still does well mapping as assassin so it gives me hope that an optimal scion or other class will do great! I had the assassin left over from a mine-based GC build that I just couldn't get into. The mine mechanics are clunky at best.

Also, I'm looking for another solution to end game bosses. I have a level 95 block-based blade flurry that can facetank almost everything including the shaper's purple balls and slams. Of course, there is so much defense on that build it needs its 430 pdps sword and several exalted to make it work! Do you see this build as a boss killer?

Well, yes, I leveled from 85 to 94 mainly on T15-16 (first Guardian kill was at level 74, but with good gear, around 50% of the DPS I have now), and I did all Guardians each time. So yes, this is a boss killer. Shaper is a joke.
