I found something interesting for my Poet pen volatile dead version
this enchant on the helmet adds +5 to unearth corpse level
and Poet's pen adds +3 to Unearth level, at lv 75.
At first I used Added Fire to Unearth, but now I put in a lv 3 Empower
Which makes the corpse lv 90, and from what I read it has like 33+ k life
This makes the Volatile dead corpse explosion base fire damage much higher, so stronger poison.
Plus Unearth also has higher base physical damage at lv 25
The damage feels higher, but hard to tell how much actual DPS I do.
I can kill the boss in the act 10 Descerated chambers, with wither totem up in a few secs, about the same as my crit ball lightning Shimmeron Trapper, who has a 7k tooltip with cluster trap
i was took a look at your charracter profile, and i think abyss jewel work not good with VD poet's pen, since the base dmg of VD really high, it scale better at %fire/%dot from normal jewel than some add fire dmg from abyss jewel (even with top tier roll)

Well I saw that V.dead has 120% damage effective so i went the flat damage route, but I'll test out % damage as well

this build work with a fire volkuur instead of lightning one
with anger instead of wrath?
the lightning one is so expensive now
the downside of fire/cold is Vinktar flask, it a big dmg boost (=2-3 abyss jewel at avg roll, and with cold we dont have aura too)

OP, I find this thread very annoying. I tried for hours to make a nearly identical build in 3.0, and could never get enough damage for it to be worth it. I tried volkkurs pathfinder using quill rain, dendrobate, etc. All the same stuff.
Im sad i didnt give it another go in 3.1.
Im now exploring some alternative ideas. Looking to see if i can make explosive arrow work. With Anger and fire jewels, I see 600k 5 fuse explosions, which are a lot higher than the popular EA builds floaying around. The fuse arrows themselves still do 500k damage too. This gives us an explosive arrow build where the fuse arrows do even more damage than the explosion.
Problem is, its probably still better to just use ice shot.
It's unfortunate that burning damage does not apply poison stacks, so it seems that ignites don't really contribute much, other than getting some scaling from the dots.
Might be possible to use xophs bow for life on ignite (wasnt this bugged? ) and drop thiefs torment for 2 rings, but i suspect it will half your damage... But then you get 2 ring slots.

it took me some time to make this poison build work. i tried the same with ignite but i couldnt figure anything decent out. ignite is just dead.

high base dmg, but u just cant spam EA since mana cost too high, even with bloodmagic + life leech + life on hit
some stuff give free mana cost for a while but it just not worth it
