New Skill Tree - What will you do with jewels?

Hey everyone what are you going to be doing with jewels and how do you think you will handle using the new skill tree? If the tree is symmetrical (which it mostly is) There seems to be around 12-15 jewel slots. By level 80, you will probably be able to obtain at least 7 of them comfortably in any build.

As seen in the videos, there seems to be a few jewels places on the outer parts of the tree, as well as an inner circle of them. Note the changes to charges as well (costing an extra point to travel through it), with them also altering one of the more popular defences what do you think will be the new popular defence?

Can't tell yet, they've already changed the position of the gem slots in some areas...not to mention any actual tree changes.

I was looking at the poison on hit for daggers applying to bows but that confimed to be changed.

I think that, by being something you find, Jewels will be generally desirable over regular passives, as the difficulty in obtaining them is much higher. This is to say that most builds will seek at least 2-4 jewels. And this is just a reasonable guess regarding Rare Jewels.

I don't think jewels alone will completely overhaul defenses, in that I think all are current and will continue to be very viable. (People love to say how amazing Artic Armor is, which is flat reduction, and then they love to under value Armor which is flat reduction...)

Some of the changes are making me interested in running RF, and potentially many purity auras. But then, I'd really like to be able to tackle the new bosses and maps with ease.

Still, it's very possible the 5 yet un-announced skills will have a large affect on my gameplay.

To be clear, I'm currently thinking of going an RF spell caster, heavy on life and Armor, but I'd also love to throw multi-curse in the mix. And would even be willing to play a utility character mostly focused on cursing.
Have to wait and see. Playing solo/self-found/HC, it's pretty much always that.
Considering they're random, I guess what I'll be doing with them isn't terribly set in stone :P
I do want to roll up a character with Leech/Life on Hit/ES on Hit with the new EB/MoM functionality. I have no idea what it's going to accomplish honestly, but it should be at least somewhat interesting!
If they stay similar to what they were when they showed them (AKA: You need to waste 1 travel point for 10 X Stat to get the Jewel) I will completely ignore them until some nice jewels drop to me. Not worth spending 2 Skill Points getting 10 STR and a Jewel Slot to socket even 20% Melee Physical Damage (as that would average on 11% damage per skill points and there are better deals than that in the tree that we are already ignoring). So yeah... Until I don't get some nice Rare or Unique Jewels, it would be as if they didn't exist in the tree (unless they are in the middle of a path I need/want to take).

Not sure what the final tree will look like, but in the one shown in the press release there were some 1-point jewels just sitting there in the middle of the path you have to take (like the one near Vaal Pact) but most seemed to need an extra spent point to grab, and that is like cutting by half the power of any jewel you want to socket in those.

Thats true, I said you could likely get ~7 comfortably but thats only if you 'wanted' to get that many. There are still currently like 2 or 3 you might get near the scion from the inner circle which require less of an investment (If you are heading past that point anyway)
Judging from the non-unique jewels I've seen, I'll just be slotting them in wherever my builds get a socket passive since it seems that rare and magic jewels only provide passive stats.

That said, I can see some useful stuff being done with just the regular jewel affixes we've seen, getting some extra maximum mana when there aren't any more mana passives in that region could be nice if your build has connected to a few node sockets along the way.
I don't know if that 15% maximum mana from Refined Heirloom is from a single affix but if so that's kind of useful for Arctic Armour.

I expect the unique jewels will have their 'best' place in the tree to be placed taking Dark Thoughts as an example so for particular builds they'll just be a notable passive which you'll need to find or trade.

try to find 4-5 jewelles that allow me to continue running my build despite the proposed changes to eb.
