MTX Question ! Automaton Long sword

so i want to buy the "Automaton Long sword" MTX to use on my 2-hand Axes .But i recall there is a bug where you skin a sword on an Axe, it will be off (the way your character hold it) . Anyone with that MTX can help me to confirm it if the problem is still there?

i don't have that mtx, but i can tell you skinning a sword over an axe does look stupid in some cases because of the way your char will hold it. tho usually its just in the combat stance
Cosmetic effects can not change the character's animations. Your character will always wield an axe like an axe, even if you put a sword skin on it.

GGG is stuck between a rock and a hard place here. Either you have players complaining that they can't apply MTX effects to weapons they're not supposed to, or you let them do that and make some of the animations look awkward.

And no, making the MTX change the animation set is not an easy thing to do either. Certain skills can only be used with certain weapon types. Those skills don't even have any animations programmed for other weapons. Letting you use any skin on any weapon would also require creating new animations for every weapon-restricted skill in the game.

Sound fair. Ty
Ya, it's not unique to any MTX but applies to all of them.

It's just that GGG never coded in the:

if {skin_mtx on two_handed_mace | two_handed_axe}

then {change_hero_stance to two_handed_sword}

else {apply skin_mtx}

Honestly I'm actually appalled by the whole MTX system and how it works. Some knives can skin over wands. But skin transfers are entirely rigid, meaning you can't skin a one handed axe with a mace. Like it matters. Then some MTX can't apply to two handed maces while others can.

It's just this hot mess and for a game that generates a substantial portion of its revenue skinning things I will never understand. Like throw us a freaking bone... one that doesn't end up in my mouth >_>

This is some pure white knighting BS. I love it when people say you can't do something... with code. GGG can code anything they like. They can certainly code that MTX can be more widely applied and that it can change a hero stance.

There is no downside to this. If your hero has a two handed mace and applies a sword MTX, they will change stance to a sword. There is no skill that makes use of specific animations. All heroes swing their wands, maces, swords, etc. and then a projectile or some skill animation follows.

Honestly, the level of BS in this reply is off the charts. Rock and a hard place. Ok. Just... I don't even know what to say to this.

And I love it when people say something should be easy to do, "just add one line of code", when they don't know the first thing about game development, let alone how a particular game's engine works. It's not just changing the idle stance, they'd also have to create new animations for skills like Earthquake, Ground Slam and Sunder which do not work with actual swords. And then check everything for weird bugs and fix those. I have no idea what GGG's resourcing situation is like; maybe it could be done without compromising the next big update, or maybe not.

@_Tiem is right, more or less.

First of all. Ok let me clarify, is it ok to not warn customers before the actual buy: this mtx might look weird on a different type of weapon??
Thats how I bought a radiant sword mtx and then I got freaking disgusted by how stupid "standby" animation look like in regards to an axe or mace (which I find myself using the most).

Secondly. We are not talking changing swing animations when using not coresponding mtx type. We are talking about this stand by animations only. Or do you belive its the same animations? Even if it is a set of animations and they are tied together I belive there are only a few default ones and thats it. It would require to only make a few more from already existing assets and that would solve the problem at hand and all that might happen in the future. There is only pure laziness working against that.

And finally it is the same laziness that makes GGG not willing to rework/reskin some of the old MTX which looks poorly done in comparsion to new ones of the same style and yet the prices of the old ones remain mostly the same.

TLDR: GGG should find some balls and fix all this outdated MTX BS.

And what of the transition between the two? Or would you have the character suddenly warp to a different pose when starting to swing? Animation blending can smooth it over somewhat but it will still look weird.

I would love to see u adressing whole post but sure it would require some work to blend the animations but dont let urself be fooled its not like every attack skill has its own unique animation. No, its like I said, there are a few and it would require GGG to make a few more and thats it, it solves similar problems that might occur in the future with this kind of things. Im shocked they didnt do it already. Like I said, pure laziness.
