Offering to the Goddess ruined

In the past, it was possible to corrupt offerings to the goddess, and for about a week in one of the previous leagues (legacy IIRC) they dropped unidentified. I have talked with several people who had both unidentified and corrupted offerings, and since the release of the fragment tab they have all been turned into "normal" ones. We have all collected these items on purpose for the sake of collection, and I know there are people who have spent large amounts of exalts on them. Is this a new "fix" or a bug? It's quite frustrating to have spent the time to collect these and have them just changed without a warning. I really hope there's a fix for this

If this is intentional this is a load of crap. I have been keeping like 10 of them in my stash and then with no warning they decide to screw over anyone who has them. Luckily I didn't have any corrupted offerings because those could go for a hundred exalts. I sincerely hope this is a bug and GGG isn't just a garbage company.
I really don't see why they would do that on purpose.
My guess is that they somehow simplified the way the game "reads" those (most probably to optimize the new stash tab), but unfortunately for Standard collectors, existing copies will no longer display such exotic properties.

Offerings and other items that couldn't get stats were not supposed to be corruptible. A bug allowed them to be in the past. The new data structure that we're using to store them more efficiently does not support it. I am sorry that this decision was made, but bugs will be fixed and the results of those bugs undone where possible.

So the question is, after we decided this, do we tell the players? If we did make an announcement, then people would try to trade the items. The only people buying them would be people who were not yet aware of the upcoming change. So the only result of warning players would be that some players who hadn't read the announcement would be essentially scammed. For this reason, we didn't announce it beforehand.

I am sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. We are trying very hard to avoid problems that create impossible items and to fix those items as soon as we can after they are detected.

The frustrating counterpoint is that some people have intentionally paid extra to buy them in absence of such commentary suggesting there is intent to fix them...
I acknowledge whichever way GGG was to go one this, there would be some people negatively impacted - so I respect the decision none-the-less.

If you're collecting something that is the direct result of a bug, then it should be understood by both parties (buying and selling) that it might be addressed eventually. At least this approach only negatively impacted people who had knowledge that it was a result of a bug in the first place, rather than also impacting people who might have been exploited maliciously by people dumping their bugged items before a fix.

The majority of items that have been the result of a bug (Kalenhart day, super high quality/level gems, skills that dropped before they were supposed to, etc) were immediately or eventually fixed it's just the timing on this fix was far longer than others. I personally feel like the precedent for fixing bugged items has always been implicit and long lasting items should be considered a rarity which makes them more desirable to collect.

However, this fix should make it clear that just like legacy uniques that get buffed or high value items that fall out completely out of the meta, or mirror worthy items when new mods are added, investing into a "collection" should carry the understand that it's a collection of intangible and malleable digital items and permanence, just like this world, is an illusion exile.
CharanJaydemyr:some people need to really rethink how they spend their money....I will trash this item if I ever find it on principle...I've seen much cleverer "troll" items get turned down, so I guess GGG gave up trying to enforce that one. Not GGG's finest hour.

I understand that bugs need to be fixed, since that's a vital part of making sure a game functions properly, especially one with an economy. However, I remember you saying something in one of your interviews about "[People play path of exile FOR the items. One of the driving factors of people playing the game is to collect better and more impressive items to create a collection and a character that they can be proud of]" Now this isn't an exact quote, but the idea remains the same.

I understand why you didn't put out a warning that it would be changed, and I agree, but I still feel that since the bug didn't affect gameplay or item drops in any way that it had no other effect besides ruining the work people had put into their collections. It makes it much less satisfying to play the game knowing that on a whim any of your items can be altered or deleted.

I know this won't be able to make the new system support the old stats, but it's something I've heard expressed in-game quite frequently and it's something to consider when making future decisions about bug fixes, particularly in regards to retaining long-time players whose items are at stake. This change sets a precedent for all items, including legacy ones (which were even given their own league).

Thank you for your time

retaining long-time players

I'm sure internal statistic shows that new players are more profitable than any I-buy-supporter-pack-once-in-a-year long-time player.
Have you tried to play the game with the default 4 tabs? It's pretty much impossible past act 10.

They've changed priorities from 'we making money to make The Game better" to "we making money" about at 2.0 release.

Consider this while making expectation of the game future.
They didn't fix it because it was bugged. They fixed it because they needed to in order to allow them to stack in the new fragment tab. You're asking that they spend extra time and money to preserve something bugged when they need the bug fixed to make the game work properly.
