Trial of Chaos Unable to Progress [SOLVED]

Second room of Trial of Chaos - The switch at the entry of the room is not selectable until you ride the platform down into the combat area. You can not take the platform back up to operate this switch at this point and the combat event is not triggered. Progress is halted effectively.

EDIT: The trial will not commence unless you click on the label of the summoning pillar. Clicking the pillar itself does nothing.
