Minion+Fire

Hey, this is what I got at lvl 36 without knowing the game at all.

Passive skill tree build

For skills right know I'm using

Fireball - Incrase Critical Damage (There are probably better gem, even Increase Critical Chance would be betterm, but I don't have them yet)
Firestorm - Chance to Ignite
Raise Zombie - Minion Damage and Minion Life
Summon Skeletons - Minion Life
Discipline
Elemental Weakness

Usually the gameplay is:
1) Summon skeletons
2) Elemental Weakness on enemies
3) Spamming Firestorm

Fireball I only use it for bosses or for ads that escape my horde of Skeletons and Zombies.

I'm liking the game right know and I don't have many problems.

For the future I'm thinking of going something like that:

Passive skill tree build

Is it viable later on, or should I change course ?

i cannot comment on how viable it is in later levels as mine is only level 20. but i am going the same route that you are and i like it its pretty fun.
As soon as you get Minion Instability everything changes.

Your skeleton are basically cannon fodder and the minion life I have on them is because +life means more damage when they explode.

While Zombies should last a little bit longer.
That's pretty close to my build, actually. You might want to consider added lightning damage to your minions, and I'm enjoying detonate dead as well for just a tad more fire damage (not to mention the fact that it's more effective versus necros than trying to zombify everything).

edit: level 48 (or 49...i forget) in ruthless now. Build still okay. Having to re-evaluate my equipment since it's been mostly for item rarity, but no big problems so far.
I don't have sig :D -- gracy123

I'm Lvl 47 now in act 2 ruthless.

I still don't have problems. My main concern is from chaos and poison mosters that pierce trough the energy shield, and without any +life passive or items they can kill me pretty fast if I'm not paying enough attention.

Other than that, I only use skeleton as cannon fodder or as a defense wall and Zombies for damage and mob control.

Firestorm with increased aoe radius is great with alot of trash mobs and Fireball to finish off rare and tougher mobs.

For me against necros is a war on who's casting more skeletons :)
Then when the screen is so full that there is no physical space for more mobs I just spam Firestorm. Sooner or later I will outnumber them.

The mobs AI is not that bad, sometimes they wonder off (skeleton most than anything) but they usually do their job. The most annoying thing is that your zombies will not follow you. And you have to cast them all over again every other fight.

I am at close to the same level and act. I play about the same way, except use fire traps more. They are handy for tossing into a room then ducking out of sight from damage. Although I have a gem supported Firestorm, I tend not to like to stand still in line of sight very long to use it.

I don't always bother with having too many zombies in close quarters like the Sin area, as they tend to aggro multiple rooms. At least the skellies disappear when not needed.

I usually use traps and skellies that blow up, and raise a few zombies once I have worked my way into the room. With life and ES in the 600's, I too have to be careful to shield myself with minions.

Still, it is a fun way to play. So far I have died about once every 2 levels to 48. No hardcore for me lol.

Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.

Hardcore to the bone.
