I have a similar build the problem with minions is they dont usalyy go where you want them to go and take vital seconds to get to the mobs so to get around this
I use dead reckoning to give me 11 mage skeletons which provide what I see as needed elemental missile damage, they melt the weak mobs instantly from a distance . I also use hextouch with hydrosphere and elemental weakness to give my mages a bit of punch on tougher stuff. Sure I'm still squishy and have to stay out of the road of most things but my minions don't usually die much I put my mage skeletons on a six link on the staff (+2 to level) with Spell echo, pierce , lesser multi projectiles, elemental focus and minion damage when you summon more as I do frequently to move them around it counts as them dying and your minions recover 5% life on minion death ( minion defence mastery ) when I hit the val skeleton I get a skeleton army which helps with most bosses The Zombies and spectres share a 6 link with meat shield, frenzy , minion damage, multi strike, The carrion Golem gets hungry looped with damage, impale, multistrike I use animate guardian on a +2 to level ring but just give him disposable rares/ uniques as he tends to die now and again and its a pain to re equip him I might put him on a defensive hungry lopp if I get round to it. I see you have lifetap, I was under the impression that lifetap doesn't work on minions. |

i tried extra skill absolution, it summons sentinels if enemy with debuff dies, if you cast it minions focus the target hit, after you get some summoned they will act like a markers for your minions to follow
Lifetap is good if you have spectrals that grand charges, at least i was told that they use it more often with lifetap |
