Lacerate Gladiator Gear Question: Sword or Axe?

I'm working on a Lacerate based Duelist (planned Gladiator ascension) and trying to decide whether to go with one handed sword or one handed axe. Which one is more effective overall (reliable straight damage / dps)?

Reply might be a bit late, but typically axes are preferred due to there being more bleed/ailment nodes for axes and since you take resolute technique with lacerate you're able to stay pretty well to the left side of the skill tree. Elder siege axe(s) are the preferred weapon for their high attack speed.
