Do I really need to follow a build?

" I mean, not really. It's fun to go your own way, and maybe even end up with a decent Build in the end :P That said, especially for new Players I'd recommend to follow a Build Guide because their own first Builds "fail" 90% of the time/hit a wall very fast. If you follow a functioning, well supported, Guide you will be able to see more of the Game, learn more about its Mechanics and probably have an easier Time if you decide to make your own one next. .

It's generally suggested to look into a few builds to help give you an idea on how to make your own build stronger if you do not wish to follow someone else's build. If you understand why someone has x10 the DPS in their build then you can apply some of that to your own.
